Standing Mile data.

Hi all

Anyone know of any data relating to standing mile? i.e speed MPH and time S.

I know we manage 130+ in about 12s on the quarter but wondered what this might equate to for a full mile.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Was down at Barnett Performance picking up the radiator fans for my car, and came across a circular laying on the counter. Seems us in the U.S. have a way to find out how a GT40 will do in a mile run. The ECTA (East Coast Timming Association) is putting on "The Maxton Monster Mile".
This group has "6" sanctioned events for 2004. They are held at Laurinburg-Maxton, North Carolina. Their web site is ecta-lsr.com

web page

and on the web site it says:

"Speed Trials have now been reintroduced to the East. Land Speed Racing involves Bonneville style cars and motorcycles, racing head long for over a full mile, with speeds exceeding 200 mph. This is not just a long drag race. The rules for Land Speed Racing are quite different and very liberal in comparison to other forms of Motorsports. Competition classes include Streamliners, Lakesters, Roadsters, Competition Coupes, Altereds, Gas Coupes, Modified and Production Pickups, Modified Sports, GT and Production. Bike Classes include Production, Modified, Altered and Streamliners."

Don't know anymore than what was on their site. Just one page with the above and a couple of pics. Anyone ever heard of this group, or where they hold the trials??? There were directions to Maxton, off I 95 Exit #14 Hwy 74 West. Sounded like it was at the Laurinburg-Maxton airport or someplace close. It didn't say if they use trap times, or timed runs, or two way runs.
The directions are pretty involved, which I will send to anyone interested in going. Sounds like someone had better have some wind tunnel testing before entering. Or you are braver than I.

You mean, Paul, that you and Roy haven't yet found a little lane near Marden that is straight for 1 mile and set up your own timing beacons! How quick was Charles "The Sieve" Kergon's car on your test lap(s)? Or don't you publish such data? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Malcolm -

Being a bit harsh referring to Charles's 40 as 'A Sieve'! - especially from someone who admitted to 'topping up' his cars engine oil with some 50 Litres one year but not doing any oil changes! - Hmmmmm 302 V8 Diesel - very green though.

Re the road testing, it was done purely to check for leaks and I must say that Charles's rear end was notably better behaved than yours - bigger rubber!?!
(oh no, that's bound to get comment from JP....)

Actually it was 55 litres of oil used in one season. Made my rags oily and have been using them ever since! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you guys are going to see how fast your 40 can go you may want to set it up like this one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now that's got a bloody good rear end! It appears to have some big action in the pipewpork department.Nice!

Moving on.

As for Malcolm, Charle's rear end and 55 litres of oil. Bloody Hell! We should have some sort of Gimp themed hill climb!

Or maybe the fastest gimp over the mile! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Paul I know of really good straight with plenty of run off. Its called the M23! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If only Brighton were still 1/2 a mile /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Actually, the oil problem is a well-concealed and brilliant racing strategy. He makes sure to be one of the first to run and oils down the track to slow those who follow. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mark Le Vea, Just wondering. Your add ons look great. Have you actually tested them in a wind tunnel to see if they actually produce enough down force to make the GT-40 MK-1 stable at over 200 mph? On can am cars that I have seen the front lip sticks out in front of the cars about 10 inches and yours look to be about 2 inches. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Joseph,

I am attempting to get some wind tunnel time to fine tune the rear wing to be able to balance the whole car aerodynamically. I suppose I should get a single nostril to run also just to get some data.

My design is supposed to turn the lift a GT40 normally sees into a modest amount of downforce. I'm not looking for 2 tons of downforce, about 400 lbs. will do. I "grew up" with a Europa that has more stability the faster you go. Couldn't see a reason why my GT40 (and me) couldn't enjoy the same.

One caveat on the rear under car wing: only the ERA has enough room to make a functional wing (IMHO) so others who do not have the room may have to develop a diffuser and spoiler lip similar to your spoiler lip. I'm hoping to get what I need for downforce from the wing so I can keep the top side clean.
