Was down at Barnett Performance picking up the radiator fans for my car, and came across a circular laying on the counter. Seems us in the U.S. have a way to find out how a GT40 will do in a mile run. The ECTA (East Coast Timming Association) is putting on "The Maxton Monster Mile".
This group has "6" sanctioned events for 2004. They are held at Laurinburg-Maxton, North Carolina. Their web site is ecta-lsr.com
web page
and on the web site it says:
"Speed Trials have now been reintroduced to the East. Land Speed Racing involves Bonneville style cars and motorcycles, racing head long for over a full mile, with speeds exceeding 200 mph. This is not just a long drag race. The rules for Land Speed Racing are quite different and very liberal in comparison to other forms of Motorsports. Competition classes include Streamliners, Lakesters, Roadsters, Competition Coupes, Altereds, Gas Coupes, Modified and Production Pickups, Modified Sports, GT and Production. Bike Classes include Production, Modified, Altered and Streamliners."
Don't know anymore than what was on their site. Just one page with the above and a couple of pics. Anyone ever heard of this group, or where they hold the trials??? There were directions to Maxton, off I 95 Exit #14 Hwy 74 West. Sounded like it was at the Laurinburg-Maxton airport or someplace close. It didn't say if they use trap times, or timed runs, or two way runs.
The directions are pretty involved, which I will send to anyone interested in going. Sounds like someone had better have some wind tunnel testing before entering. Or you are braver than I.
