Stroker 347 Engine

I know a guy that bought a CHP 347 and it proceded to destroy it's own crank.

I don't know if it was an instalation error, or a problam with the Chinese crank that CHP used.

This, together with several other stories have convinced me that the only way to make sure your engine is properly built is to double check every thing or build it yourself.

While mass produced crate engines may offer more features per dollar, they are usually not much cheaper than finding a competent engine builder to do the hard stuff and then assemble it yourself.

The only other advantage of a crate motor is that you don't have to wait as long. I can afford to wait, so I'm doing it myself.

Mike,
As far as I know he has made four or five of them. I will found out what they cost if they are ready to sell.

We run a Fontana Alloy 302 bored/stroked to 347 in Roys Mk1 GTD. We use a Renault box with DB Quaife conversion + ATB.

To date the transmission /drive-train has stood up to numerous lively starts - esp on 11" wide slicks and often starting in second gear.

The sprung clutch centre (AP) did finally give up its grip on life as Roy drove home from the club AGM earlier this month (leadfoot!). A replacement 'all solid' item has now been fitted and will be tested at Goodwood next month.

We have never 'dumped' the clutch - the easiest way to spin up is to engage the clutch and once rolling press the loud pedal - no problem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Paul,

I have conceeded on several occasions that you guys are running Renaults now and have been for years. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and you guys have been, and continue to, eat up the roads with those trannys. Since it is always foggy in the Isles, maybe you guys just can't get enough traction to hurt them, do you reckon?

The only time I have come right out and said, I don't think so, is when someone was talking about an FE in front of one. IMHO, I don't think that is a good idea. And the bigger question is "why?" Unless you just like living on the edge! And as someone reiterated here this very evening, some think that if you aren't living on the edge, you're taking up to much space.

Regards,
Lynn
