Superformance

Just to set the record straight.
A Honeycomb cored Carbon Fibre monocoque chassis is far superior to any other form of chassis construction.
Its lighter, stronger, safer and stiffer and thats fact.
Thats why cars like the Bugatti Veron, McLaren M4-12C, Koenigsegg and TSC GT40 use this material.

Thanks

Andy

Andy - we're not talking material, we're talking design. The Veyron, McLaren and Koenigsegg all have CF chassis that are made of compound molds which are glued together and baked, and are not made out of flat panels that are glued together and I assume baked. Jim's point was that the strength in CF comes not only from being baked, but also the curves and bends in the compound shape. Also, few pieces are used.

Well good news is...

I may have overcome an engineering problem on 1 of these cars...

Not all is failed!

Im still holding onto my ACE

Adding shape to any material increases the stiffness. Thats why the original monocoque is full of pressed ribs and returned edges and flanges.

We do not need to add shape because the material itself is more than strong enough for the application.

Hey Andy

Does that mean the GT40 with the CF isnt going to be as stiff as the Koenigsegg etc which 'are' (if they are?) shaped?

That inpacts handling capabilities I assume?
