And these were not all the 40s there! Whilst working on my new alternator (clearly made late on a Friday afternoon!) in the pits to get the car running again I countered three of us not on the grid. Now add those to the 38 cars I heard that were on the grid and Frank got his 40 40s!

Well done Frank, and everyone else who made this day a cracker.

This was one traffic jam I was sorry not to be in! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Watched everyone else from the sidelines/pit lane though which was great anyway.

What happened to the Maclaren M6 GT I saw come back in with some major scrapes down the side? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I came through the tyre smoke (spin) at Madgewick to see it sticking nose in off the outside of the track on the corner exit.

Cold tyres?, whatever - still, no-one hurt and the car drove back to pits under its own power (once re-started!)

Amazing traffic jam upto Brussels/belgium for me but a worldwide premiere.I'll be back next year for sure.
it was really a pleausre to get the faces and the live experience of this club world.
Tx to all of you and espcially Frank who made it happen /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The GTD 40 club track day is now, I suppose, becoming the biggest and best event of its kind in the world. Thats a grand statement, but everyone who was there, and there was a huge number, seems to agree that this years event was as good as we hoped for. Our ambition was to get fourty 40s on the track for the 40th anniversery of the 40, and we might just have made it but for Malcolms car being on jacks in the pits and two other cars staying in the pits and not joining us on the grid, but 38 assorted gt40 replicas make a fantastic sight when assembled together, and a magnificent noise on the massed parade laps. This part of the event was photographed from a helicopter, as the sheer number of cars was almost impossible be included in ground shots, and the video will show all of those "at speed" on the parade. This years event was also free of any gt40s damaging themselves against the scenery, although David Hall tried very hard with a 130mph spin at Woodcote corner, leaving some very impressive rotation marks on the road before dropping it into the gravel trap, and Roy Smart ducked when he hit a duck at 150 mph on Lavant Straight, but the bird smashed part of the front bodywork before proceding in many parts over the windscreen and into oblivion. Roger had everyone in the queue in the pit lane jumping when his carbs caught fire as he was all strapped in ready to go, but no real harm done, and the only slight damage of the day was to the Maclaren M6GT which got a little too light on the bump in Madgewick corner and took on the tyre wall head on, only ego and glass fibre hurt. Thank you to all who helped us to make the day. Frank

And just one thing I nearly forgot, we did (unfortunately ) have a hospital trip for one poor guy who was leaning into his mates car to talk to him when the driver slammed the door shut ready to go on the parade lap, and sheared the end of his finger clean off. The marshals did a grand job in searching the trackside to find the lost part of his anatomy, and Brians gleaming white car became blood spattered red. Injured man and end of finger were dispatched to hospital, but he came back stitched up but still minus the end of his finger. 40s can bite just standing still ! Frank

Hi all -

Bret the video is ok - ish' - holding the camera at speed is not as easy as one might think - Should be some good stuff though and once combined with the clubs official videographer, Tim 'Spielberg' Carpenter's footage in Andrews magic PC - the result will no doubt be good.

Well done Frank and all the others who helped make this an extra Special Day.

Finally - we always like input / feedback - why not drop me a line of what you thought of the day, most memorable moment - whatever you like and I'll cover in next mag.

Just to put the record straight, it was not me that took the top off Allan Feldman's finger but my namesake Brian Snelling. The reason that they singled out all of the red cars at the end of the parade laps was so that the St Johns Ambulance medics could search for the top of Allans finger. They only knew that it was in a red car!

Well done to Frank and all of his team, they even organised the weather. Can't wait till next year

You can check out a few more pics on my website. DC's site together with some in-car video (no need to comment on the lines I was taking, this was my fisrt flying lap).

I'm afraid I was only there as a spectator again, but thoroughly enjoyed the day as usual. Everyone is so friendly - both drivers and spectators, and I'm sure the event will continue to get bigger ( it can't really get any better! ) from year to year.

Paul, I have some video, from the front of the grid as the cars took off for the parade lap, and from the back end of the pit wall ( next to the pit entrances) as the cars went past ( at speed) to start the second 'parade lap', so if it is any good you are welcome to it.

Thanks to Ian for the ride which was great after I had managed to squash myself into the passenger side. I won't say anything about the wet feet!

If anyone has any ideas how to get 6'4" into the driving seat a whilst still being able to drive the thing, please let me know, then maybe I'll make it as a driver one day!

Chris, I would very much like to get a copy of your pics and video as soon as, especiaLLY THE MASSED START OFF THE GRID!!please call me, Frank

If someone has some pics taken of my car on the track, pls email me as I was so excited that I forgot to have pictures taken :o

Frank if you go to http://kva.gt40.users.btopenworld.com you should hopefully be able to download a ZIP file /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif provided I have got it right. Its video taken with my digital camera, so its not TV quality but it'll hopefully bring a smile /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Worked first time for me. I am broadband with BT as well though, which I guess Brett is, so this might have an effect.
