Timing Question

What should I set the base timing to?

331 SBF
Comp cams hydraulic roller (.598/.598, 232/232 deg dur @ .050)
10.2 compression
Victor Jr heads (unmodified)
Weber 48IDA induction

And what should the total timing be (32, 34, 36, etc.)?

Thanks
Bill

You will want around 34° deg total Bill, I would guess around 10°/12° initial to be safe, but remember I have no experience with your pump fuels. The total is more critical and you can then taylor the curve to suit your application. You missed the most important bit, what Ignition system are you running?

Bill,

The 331 I just received from Keith Craft spec'd 36° total; don't have access to the engine documents at the moment so cannot comment as to initial timing.

Whoopsie. Allow me to correct my earlier post; after having another look at the documents from Keith Craft, 34° is what they recommend...

We messed with a couple stroker motors on the dyno and 32 to 34 of total timing showed the best results. I'm not familiar with the Crane disty but we always use the soft spring in MSD distributors to get those balls to the wall.
