Toronto Autoshow 05

Hi all,

I finally got to meet Ian Clark of CAV and finally see Angelo's MKI. Wow! Very impressive machine. Sitting 4 inches off the road, the car just looks menacing from any angle - beautiful.

It was nice to speak with Ian, he's a great guy and really knows a lot about the car (cars in general) and was kind enough to let me hop the barrier and poke my fat head around to get a closer look. Thank you Ian, and thanks to Angelo for letting everyone get a good look at some racing heritage.

If anyone can make it, there's 85,000 sq ft of cars (over 1000 vehicles) to look at. Well, that just gave me a nice shot in the arm and more motivation to get one in the garage (or at least a box of parts).

Cheers!

Hi Chris,

Pleasure meeting you too. It never ceases to amaze me how many people have a personal story or experience with the original GT40s.

Yesterday a gentleman introduced himself that worked on the movie Grand Prix and actually got a ride in the GT40 camera car.

Today I met Jim Docker (pictured below)who was a mechanic for Allan Mann Racing on his aluminum monocoque cars. Now he sells Land Rovers!

Who knows who I'll meet tomorrow, hope to see you there:)

Hi Ian,
I would be interested in contacting Jim Docker. I am currently rebuilding AM GT40/1 back to its' 1966 LeMans test days configuration. Any help or dialogue could be of help. I am sure even talking with Jim will be of great interest to me too. Can you forward my contact information to him so I can talk with him? Thanks, Rex A Myers

Jim,
That is a splendid photo of a beautiful car. The stance of the P4 really shows its lines well. Would make a nice desktop if it was better res.

Hi guys got my first chance to sit in the new Ford GT. Since these are not allowed Canada as of yet and no dealers can get them and only 1 guy from Ford had the keys to the car, this was a real treat.
Boy it was very comfortable and had ample head room as the top of the door is recessed. Also it's ALOT easier to get in and out of. This is because the door sill is basically level with the floor. Also a lot easier to get in and out of than a viper as well.
The 2nd best part was when he through me the keys when he went to sit in my car.
This was real treat and I thank Ford for the invitation to have my CAV GT40 on display right beside their GT. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is a pic. I hope to post a clearer pic tomorrow.

Angelo, you deserved at LEAST to sit in the new GT. It was great of you (and Jim with his amazing GT40 and his Ferrari) to have your car(s) at the show. I really enjoyed getting a close look, and to have a nice long talk with Ian (Ian, it didn't even cost me much at Holt's on Saturday!) It's nice to see that you enjoy your car. I hope to get the chance to see it MOVING sometime! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Heard someone in Ottawa:

Dammit!!!

Angelo, you look very happy sitting in that GT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bill it's almost as big as a smile I had when I first sat in my OWN GT40. But not quite. I'm sure if Ford was to donate one of theirs to me I could smile a lot BIGGER!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

another pic of the "new" old and the new generation of GT40 and GT44.

Hi Ron,

Angelos' car runs 225/50/15x8 front and 295/50/15x10 rear with 4.00" ground clearance. This is standard spec for CAV Canada cars.

The recently introduced wide track suspension upgrade will be going on this car as the show's now over. This fills out the Gulf wheel arches with the 12"wide rubber on 10" wide wheels while avoiding large wheel offsets which shorten the wheel bearing life.
