Visiting the monaco GP 2010

My wifes big birthday next year calls for a bit of a treat for her I think.
She's always wanted to go to Monaco and see the Grand Prix (and I wouldn't mind!)
sadly I'm not in a situation to be able to splash out thousands of pounds on an "all inclusive" package, but has anyone done the Monaco GP on a reasonable budget.
Any advice or tips much appreciated.

on a reasonable budget.

Not that it helps you, but a (company owning) mate of mine once took up a last minute offer to replace a cancelled booking on a flight, to go one year, figuring he would pick up some accommadation once he got there.

He eventually literally slept on a park bench......

Simon, I have used these guys on every visit to Monaco. Grand Prix Adventures | Home They will tailor a package to suit your budget. Kenny the guy who runs it specialises only in the Monaco GP.
He is a mad Scot but don't hold that against him.

If you don't like a package, best bet is to use accommodation in Nice and bus or train to Monaco. You will save bulk $$$ doing that

Just wanted to add that this was mentioned on the US feed as a "relatively" cheap way of seeing the race. If I recall correctly they said a half hour train ride which isn't bad at all IMO.

Fred, I highly recommend the stay-somewhere-else-and-take-a-train approach. Even if you're staying in a hotel on or near the track the crowding before and after the race is really annoying. At least if you stay outside of Monaco you'll have a little peace before and after the race.

A beautiful town where you can stay in relative peace and calm and also train to/from Monaco is Grasse, home of Fragonard perfumerie and one of the most unspoilt parts of the south of France. For a couple away on vacation it's a great spot to enjoy some local french culture w/o the glam and dirt of Nice/Monaco. Your wife will enjoy the tour of the Fragonard perfumerie. You can drive your car to the coast (about 8-10 miles) and then train it along the coast about 30 miles past Nice and then into Monaco. As I recall, the train station isn't far from the Grand Casino and some of the view points for the race.

You'll have a great time in Grasse. The roads are great driving roads and the traffic keeps moving (unlike in Nice/Monaco).
