What happens to our part builds in 2030 !!!!

Hi all,

just something to discuss ,

after talking with one of the other members about this I thought it be best bringing it up in here see what your views are or just if anyone has any info on the subject

obviously as you prob all know 2030 they want to stop all brand new car sales

so how does that leave us with our builds ,if we haven’t finished by then is it game over !!
do we have 8 years from now to finish !!

thought I’d bring it up as bet it applies to a lot of us

be interested in your comments

cheers all
Nick

My guess is kit cars will become electric. If you follow some of the electric builds on YouTube, there is a ton of interest. If I build another kit that is the direction I will go.

The primary business of every Replica manufacturer I am aware of is NOT building and selling cars. They build and sell components that most of their customers create cars with.
I personally have no issues with alternative energy and motivation sources...

I understand fully with what you saying and if you fancy electric go for it , all I’m saying for those who like a roaring 40 and in the process of building . With current things happening do we only have 8 years to finish ?

it was more advice I was looking for , and imagine few others are in same boat

That may be the key…. They are not sold by mfrs as new cars, they are built by individuals

I understand the distinction, but will the UK I.V.A system, post 2030, allow a new internal combustion powered car to be passed & registered ?
Sadly I doubt it.

Maybe putting a barn find with a cancelled V5 registration back on to the road will become impossible, or even importing a used ICE powered car in to the UK will outlawed ?

There's tons of stuff available to read about the 'headline' 2030 / 2035 rules, but I haven't seen any detail such as the above. The details possibly haven't been decided yet ?

Nick,

In 2000 Jeremy Clarkson produced a video for the BBC titled "Who Killed The British Motor Industry?"

If things like that IVA System Post 2030 are allowed to be inplemented, in another ten years Clarkson could well produce another video titled
"Who Killed The British Economy?".

Apologise for resurrecting an old thread, but I didn't want to cover ground that had already been covered here.

I know that rules for crash regulations are relaxed for companies like Caterham and Ariel, as they are small manufacturers. Surely there is going to be an allowance for these small manufacturers to continue to produce cars like the atom, 7 and GT40?

If you think about it, what is the actual impact of a GT40 driven maybe 1000 miles a year, probably less than a tesla daily driven in the same year...

If there isn't an allowance, would new cars made for the track be covered under the new regulations? How would engine manufacturers be impacted, would the practice be banned as well? I can't be the only one who feels there is a lot of uncertainty with these new regulations.
