Hi all. I'm from Ukraine, Odessa.
I make a replica of Pagani zonda, and I want to install the engine on M120E60 Mercedes s600.
Tell me if I can use the gearbox from the Audi A8 2.5 TDI 5HP-19 (FNL)?? participate in the race car will not be only for city driving.
if not, tell me what should I use for this engine.
Sory, I'm bad at English.

It's the right layout, I'm not really up on that engine or on the automatic Audi gearboxes though. It would help if you've got some pictures or diagrams of the output side of the engine.

I think it's also fitted to the VW Passat and Skoda Superb which might be a bit cheaper to buy than the Audi version.

Don't worry about your English, way better than my Ukrainian! :)

Power isn't the problem. Torque is, but you're still right. Its far too much. After googling the engine its about 580Nm and the manual 01E is only rated for 450Nm, I doubt the auto is any better.

The 01E would survive far better than the 5hp-19, it is an automatic box that is not the strongest in the line

Transmission can be from the 2001 Audi A8 3.7l 5HP19??

01E from which machine and what volume of the year should it be?
what else can you put the gearbox on this motor?

So auto then. (01E is a manual gearbox)

Your choice is pretty limited with that engine. The Audi boxes behind the big power engines are all 4wd (and are too weak if you convert them to 2wd).

Porsche I think still wouldn't handle the torque or are manual.

The vast majority of the boxes that would take that level of torque are FE-RWD.

I can't think of one but I'm sure there are some out there. Good luck.

I can not take the gearbox from Mercedes 4matic and turn the differential of that would put the engine back.

The Ricardo can take the power, but remember you will still need to make an adapter.

The problem with converting a AWD box is that they usually cannot take the tq and they come apart.

You could use a V-Drive unit. That would mean taking the engine and putting it in the chassis backwards (belts facing the rear of the car), put the auto box on, connect it to a V-drive (reversing unit) and send the power to a rear mounted diff to drive the rear wheels. The problem is that it takes up a lot of space and I dont think you can make it work in a 40 without lifting the engine

I have a G96/50 ( Porsche Turbo 6 Speed ) already converted for midengine use.
It will take the torque and power of your engine. It is equipped with an factory porsche lsd and prepared for an oilcooling setup with external oil pump. It is in mint condition.
The G96/50 is sideshifted what helps for a nice shift cable routing. THe shift is very smooth and modern. the 6 speed will give you the correct ratio for street and track.
if your are interessted drop me an pm. Gearbox is located close to Munich in germany.

You definitely would not use the 5HP-19 period. This is a very weak trans. It is basically the same as was used in the early tiptronic Porsches. I learned about this trans when the one in my wife's A6 2.7L bi-turbo went out. The rated torque output is the same as this engine makes stock and it didn't last. What happens with this trans is two of the drums are VERY weak and typically break. This happens when they are not even pushed. I talked with one of the official ZF importers here in the US about this at length. It seems that they just break. These two drums are made of very thin aluminum and the edge breaks off at the snap ring that holds the clutch pack.

They also have a problem with the design of the lock-up clutch seal in the converter. When this fails the lock-up clutch overheats and the pieces go into the trans and destroy it. The problem was bad and AUDI and BMW would not fix them.

I've built many automatic transmissions but never saw one that was built so weak. It makes the 41TE in my Dodge minivan look like a high performance trans.
