Ignition Coil Mounting

Can people tell me or show me pics where they have mounted their coils please.

I have a MSD Blaster 2 coil connected to a 6AL and a small diameter MSD dist. Is there a minimum/maximum distance away it should be, or can I mount it anywhere?

Thanks

Hi Brett

this the mounting of my ignition coil (bracket is from systec for a fuel pump), MSD AL6 unit is on the left hand engine side. Runs flawless this way

JUST DO NOT mount it on the engine block !

Interesting.... Mk II's did exactly that, on the front of the left cylinder. I did it for a while, just to be historically accurate but was careful to use an epoxy-filled coil so it didn't die from vibration.

The "standard" coils are oil-filled and want to be mounted "nose up" so the cool properly.

Those of you with computerized ignition may want to consider using the MSD 8261 HVC coil. Thhis unit has higher voltage AND current output. It is designed to go with the AL-7 and 8 but will work with all of them. I have the AL-6 but it is controlled by the computer(FAST). It is mounted on the removable engine cover to keep it close to the distributor(no water pump). The distributor advance is locked out and controlled by the computer. It has a bigger footprint than the Blasters and I was running out of room on both sides of the engine.
