Unless that watermelon was rigged to blow up, that was a pretty stupid stunt....
Aw heck, it was stupid anyway....

Uh...'looks to me as though they planted a charge IN the watermelon, blew it up with that...and probably photoshopped it from there.

'Never have I seen a round cause an even, 360* around, pretty much perfectly spherical-shaped 'burst' pattern from the center out upon impact. Most of the burst travels in the same direction as the projectile. E.g.: Check out the "impact" frame(s) on the Zapruder film (frame 310-315...somewhere in there).

Besides - who'd be DUMB ENOUGH to play William Tell for real with any firearm (let alone a .50 cal.) OR a mini bomb?

Uh...come to think of it...lemme get back to ya on that one...

Nothing was planted in the watermelon. A 50 caliber sniper round muzzle velocity is 2800 feet per second, muzzle energy is 11,500 foot pounds. That's 1 3/4 Cadillacs traveling at 1/2 mile a second concentrated into a 1/2 inch projectile. It's devastating.

I again suggest:

I've fired a .50 cal into melons as well as ocean waves (the latter at U.S.N. Antiaircraft Training Center, Dam Neck, Virginia). Result was as I described. There was no perfectly round, basketball-shaped, symmetrical burst pattern produced emanating from target-center. While some blowback did occur from the point of impact, the 'splatter' more-or-less...I say again; more-or-less...went straight up, straight down, straight left, straight right, and the bulk of it in the same direction as the projectile. Nothing of any great consequence blew back toward me that I can recall. Certainly not anywhere near enough to create the perfect visual sphere seen in the 'William Tell' vid.

Perhaps this will illustrate a bit 'more gooder' (starting @ 01:20 or so):

OTOH, this is a link to a vid wherein a melon is blown up "with a banger". Note the splatter pattern is very similar (identical ?) to the one in the O.P. vid (F.F. to 02:05 or so):

Relax gents, the originators of this also have another video out about how they faked it. It is not real, and they come out and say it. Keep surfing, you'll find it.
