"Please inquire for price."

'Not good. 'Almost always indicates it's more than 'market'...by more than a buck or two. The statement; "This car is built to an extraordinarily high standard...", pretty much removes all doubt.

GREAT looking car though...

It’s probably one of those -
“If you have to ask how much - you probably couldn’t afford it anyway!”
Deals....

Interesting that the ad touts Gurney Weslake cylinder heads, but it has Gurney Eagle valve covers... I suspect they are aftermarket Windsor cylinder heads with knock-off valve covers like most of us “commoners” are used to...

'Zackly.

(An aside: That old saying has always annoyed me. How would one write the check w/o knowing the amount...'hand the guy a signed blank check in exchange for the title and say, "Have a nice day"? I dunna think so...)

W/O tearing the whole thing down, how would one really know what's what inside the engine in general - aside from what its external casting numbers might tell you?

It's a darned nasty looking car regardless. I darned sure wouldn't kick it out of my garage...

I have been in contact with the seller. I know this car, watched it throughout the build process. It is one of, if not the finest build ERA has ever done. The detail is second to none. I wont mention the owner's name out of respect for his privacy... But this is truly one of those cars that was a literal no expenses spared build. Unfortunately, I am pretty car poor at the moment with an (ERA)Cobra, GT40 and an M3. My hope was to trade my GT for this, but our numbers are just to far away. If there was any way to swing it, it would be in my garage. It truly is a work of art. Those are genuine Gurney Heads BTW... Note the 10 degree cant of the webers. Magnesium wheels.... Dunlops...

All that said.... I had a long discussion with the seller debating the price of a high end ERA Chassis vs SPF. The SPF of course being the current standard for originality, IMHO... Which would you buy for pretty much the same money? Interesting debate.

They're Gurney heads, you can tell by the carb tilt and the exhaust ports.

They had this chassis on display at the GT40 reunion at Elkhart Lake in 2009. It was an incomplete roller at that time, iirc. I remember noticing the wide wheels/tires sticking out from under the rear flares a bit. The bodywork and paint was really nice.

It's amusing to me that neither one of the two guys that knocked this really nice ERA own a gt40 and that they both failed to recognize the Gurney heads. Way to go, guys!

My money would be on this ERA. Probably the most originally built car that came from them (or at least that has every been publicly exposed - so dont yell at me owners). Question for the group - how "streetable" is it really?

Maybe you should reread.

Dave,
did the seller indicate why he is selling? Spending so much time and with that level of detail..... must be tough to sell!?

Since Dave asked the question, I will respond. I would choose an ERA over an SPF any and every day. As a matter of fact I have been in search of a replica for quite some time and I never even considered an SPF. They are a fine product but I am fixated on the ERA.

Markus... I only met the owner once, at ERA actually. Complimented him on the car and their efforts. I didn't want to pry, speaking to the seller, as to why the car was for sale. I was, am shocked that it is.... But more bummed that anything else that it is out of my reach at the moment! Unless one of you guys wants to buy a really nice Gulf CAV!!

As far as being streetable, I suspect that the tires, despite the quality of the Dunlops, would be the only challenge. Having had 2 different sets of Goodyears, Hoosiers and now Avons, I am sure that the (very) wide bias Dunlops would be a handful on the road. In addition to that, they will likely wear very quickly. And we all think the Avons are expensive!! Anyway.... All a burden that I would be more than willing to endure!

What is the difference between the Gurney Weslake heads and Gurney Eagle Heads?

It's amusing to me that neither one of the two guys that knocked this really nice ERA own a gt40 and that they both failed to recognize the Gurney heads. Way to go, guys!

If you’re talking about me, I did not knock the car at all. The ad said one thing and the valve covers said something else.
And as far as price is concerned, what is it? I have walked away from a number of cars over my years because the owner just wanted to collect offers. Sorry, but I’m not about to play the old “How much money do you have” game. State your price and lets get on with it. The car is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay...

I see you chose the more-or-less 'comprehensive' response/rebuttal route. I didn't have the ambition...

Maybe you should reread.
