So disappointed

So bid on a Copart auction today on Gary's wrecked 20B SLC. Used autobidmaster.com, website says I'm the high bidder, i win the auction for 15,800. I even get an invoice for the car from them after the auction. Ten minutes after getting the call saying I didn't win the car, and autobidmaster made a mistake. They say they are giving to some guy "Freddy", who I suspect is a known youtube star, and that he is going to get it for my winning bid. I even have screenshots of my phone with me as the high bidder with the winning bid. Not much I can do, but nothing stings more then to have the bone taking right out of your mouth. If this youtuber does indeed show up with the car in a week or two, I'm going to be even more pissed. I seriously suspect shenanigans.

Anyway,

If anyone has any ideas I'm open to them. It's not that big of a deal really, I could always build my own still, but I really looked forward to rebuilding that thing.

Wow that really sucks. I saw on his instagram page he has a new project coming and it looks like SLC with a countach front end redering. So quite possibly somebody pulled some strings, sorry to hear that I hope you get it resolved in your favor.

yeah just saw that, thank you for the info. I suspected as much. Just really shady. How much do you want to bet he plays up how he bought the car on autobidmaster too. It is possible he doesn't even know, but I suspect a deal was cut.

I'd pay the invoice, but I'm not a lawyer. How long did the invoice give to pay? Good luck.

That's pretty bullshit - make sure to spam the shit out of what a scam autobidmaster.com is then

Btw, I wasn't aware Gary's car got wrecked ... never saw any posts about it.

Bob

I had been watching Gary's SLC since January waiting for it to go on sale, but got tired of waiting and picked up a new project a few months ago.

Did you win the pre-auction bid, or the live auction bid? They have two auctions for every car, one that is online from the day the car is posted until the live date, and then the live auction. The higher of dollar figure of the two auctions takes the car. If you were high bidder on the live auction and that was more than the pre-auction, the you should have it. If you just won the pre-auction, and the live auction went higher, then the live auction bidder would take it. It seems to me you won the pre-auction because that was a $15,800 at 38 minutes before the live auction started.

The co-part bidding system sucks with the dual auctions, and they really need to just go one way or the other.

That 15,800 pre bid was mine, have the screen shots to prove it. No one bid on the car during the live bid, I sat and watched it. They sent me a invoice for 17,787 for the total with auctions fees. I could post this stuff if you guys want to see it. The more I talk about it with friends, and read some of the complaint sites, this is not a abnormal occurrence for them. I think they might be using customers to "front" money and bid on cars, and if they see a good deal, or another insider wants the car, they just claim a auction "mistake". It's really shitty. And I am 100% sure Travarish is going to get this car. At least he has to shell out 17,787 for it, 1K to get it shipped to florida, and that thing needs a full glass body, full interior, windshield and all lexan, AC unit (gary never put it in) and probably a whole lot more. Who knows if the 20B is still good, I was betting it was, but now I hope its got low compression on #2. Gary only sold it for 41 or 43K. It really was a "rough" specimen compared to the Alan et al. of today builder. Plus it will also always have a salvage title, so resale will always be hard. Hope it just sucks money from him. I was somewhat worried it was going to tap me....

I was going to use it to try and build a front wheel electric drive for it, had it all spec'ed out, and ready to pull the trigger on the parts, and make it the first SLC hybrid. I didn't really care about resale or if the 20B was shot, as I used to rebuild about 5 of these a year back in the 90's. I was looking to get a motor/frame at a low entry point so I could really go nuts with the electric side, and not break the bank. They rotary was a really nice bonus.

Easy come easy go. I will throw some darts at his Instagram and youtube when he announces it. I will not let him make it seem he "won" the auction.

It needed a full wiring harness as well. It looks like it was wired up with a $99 PLC and industrial style DIN-Rail marshaling. This thing will kick his butt, it is nothing like the Lambo he restored.

Pretty crappy on Copart's behalf, but not surpirsing, I've never managed to win anything, even when I was the high bidder, always something they have in the back pocket. Only time you an be sure you are getting it is if it is listed as "Pure Sale"

I watched since May, it sat through winter?? That thing is done! I knew it need a full rewire, but I was planning on taking it down all the way to the frame. The batteries would take alot of work to squeeze in. :)

Back to the drawing board. There is a unfinished 2017 slc in NJ, probably wount meet on price though. I have also been looking at the new Ultima...

Well that blows. If possible you should post the screenshots on this thread, would be nice to point out how CoPart(and him) pulled the car out from under you. I'll be more than happy to keep a watch on his channel and comment accordingly!

The rear tubular frame is a gonner for sure. Side impact on the wheel would have buckled that. So you'd be making one of those over (better in steel). Body is probably a total, maybe the spyder is salvageable but it all depends on how good you are with glass. The bigger problem would be if the front side impact buckled the side of the footbox. That would be tough to fix.

So i looked long and hard at those photos. I think it got hit right side right infront of the tire. In the photos you can see the radiator gary used is in the passenger seat, looks almost intact, dents around the out side, but not mangled. Half of the air spliter is in there too. The front wheels look pretty straight too. To me it looks like it slide into a barrier or or wall on the left side at about a 15 degree angle, pivoted around the front impact point and hit again with the rear tire. It probably wasn't going that fast, maybe 45-50 and did not come to a fast stop. I was planning for full fiber glass replacement, and maybe some suspension, and probably the radiator box being rebuilt.

However, the more we talk about it, the more i realize this thing is going to be a huge project to fix, and most likely it would be cheaper to buy a unfinished project or even running car in poor condition.

I wanted a different look, everything was labeled and documented. ITs a race car, there was no luxury in it. Drove it for almost 4 years without trouble, did 202 at Fontana Ca Auto club speedway during a rotary engine event. 765 HP on the dyno at the rear wheel documented. Its a shame that it is wrecked. It was a great car.

Hey Gary, if I had got the car I was going to look you up. It looks from the photos that a owner after you moved the air to water ic to a different location. The car was also listed as a "Biohazard", usually this means blood on the inside from the accident. Any chance you are still in contact with the person you sold it too?
