superformance alternator warning light question

just chasing down some gremlins in my electrical system and noted when I disconnected the alternator harness and when checking the two wires attached to the harness there is a black wire ( the F - i guess field connection) that gives out 12v when key turned to run position and 6-7 volts coming from the blue wire on the alternator harness ( the L lead) that is supposed to goto the warning light. Is there supposed to be any power on this line at all or do i have a short somewhere? thanks

Do you have Blas' wiring diagram?

I do it shows the wire goto connector B 4th position then to the red alternating warning light to the lower left of the tachometer on the dash. The light also receives 12V run power at all times, so it seems possible that the light itself acts as a resistor and the other side of the light connector would be 6V, I guess I could try shorting this wire to see if it lights up, I didn't try that yet.
