    Torque wrench spec strips threads

oops red face here. Of course the bolts are 5/16", I'd like to say that was a typo but have to admit it was really, a recently attained 60year olds senior moment. Ross

    Torque wrench spec strips threads

Sorry forgot to say I don't use any lube on the threads although ARP bolts have a nice flat washer under their head. Ross

    Torque wrench spec strips threads

Bolt threads are 5/32" and 18tpi. Manufactured by ARP. The bolts are long enough to place plenty of thread in the heads. Ross:thumbsup:

    Torque wrench spec strips threads

I've built or rebuilt a few 302 Ford Windsor engines now (blown up the odd one or two) and being a stickler for doing things by the book, I adhere to torque wrench specifications almost exclusively. Ok so bearing caps, rod bolts and head studs etc I will always tighten using a high quality...

    ZFQ Transaxle failure

I've just reassembled my RBT/ZF after fitting a new 2nd gear synchro. Seems to me significant strength in the casing. 1/ Side flanges - made of Cast Iron 2/ Loads into each side flange spread over 10 studs 3/ Rear Cover - also made of Cast Iron 4/ Loads into rear cover spread over approx 20...

302 Firing order (How hard can it be)

Hello to all and thanks for the welcome back. I knew Jac Mac would find a mechanical downfall from my stupidity, isn't it great to have this help. However I did a bit of reading about that power valve in the Holley and how it can be damaged. I even know you need to change it with the low vaccuum...

302 Firing order (How hard can it be)

Ross is back Well I wonder if anyone missed me, haven't been around here for a while. My track exploits came to a grinding halt 2 years ago when my 2nd string motor allowed it's crank to become 2 parts instead of 1. Since then I have converted the Subaru to electric and have the Pantera...

    Castor, camber and Toe ?

Graham to get a degree symbol ° hold down alt and type 2, 4, 8, and when you lift off alt voila. If indeed you did mean degrees your numbers are sensible for camber and castor but I use mm for toe eg 1-2mm toe in, not sure how that equates to degrees. Ross:thumbsup:

    Vintage guitars

My opinion is the style of music determines the best guitar Country - Fender Telecaster Strat (clean) Rock (distortion) - Les Paul Jazz - Semi Acoustic - Gibson 335 Lots of alternative guitars that fit but The above are the most well known The only amp is a valve amp but a learner can start...

    Electric powered SL-C

Electric motors are a lot more efficient(80+%) than ICE (internal combustion) around 20%, so the comparison made earlier about fuel usage being the same would be incorrect IMHO of course. I'm converting a car at the moment and the cost to charge batteries is very low. Ross:thumbsup:

    Building a new race engine

It's taken me 5 years to get my hands on one of these. It's a Morrison manifold and it is a beautiful thing. These photos don't do it justice. We went to see Steve Morrison today (one of natures gentlemen) to buy parts but came away with a complete unit. I am very happy...

    Building a new race engine

Well I have spent my life in the entertainment industry and if my engine does blow I hope at least one small part of it does end up in Jac Mac's Rum and Coke. Yes SP250 the cold weather down South would be the reason that Jac Mac drinks his warming Tonic. Speaking of entertainment, I was on the...

    Building a new race engine

Gus- Yes (that was easy) Jac Mac - I wanted to go with your 331 with 4.125 bore suggestion and I thought about it long and hard. However I had already purchased the 347 scat setup and had the crank internally balanced for assembly into the cracked block. I'm stuck with the current set up, but...

    Building a new race engine

Well my intention to rebuild a race engine and consequently my earlier thread describing the process came to nought, when I found cracks in the B50 Ford Racing block. I purchased a new Dart Sportsman 302 Iron block and because of this I have renamed the project 'Building a new race engine'. I...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Oh well I have the combo that Jac Mac wouldn't give me 2 cents for, but I have a history of selective deafness with my mentors. Yes it has bought me undone in the past, but I'm prepared for the possible consequences. Russ I have some 7/16 head studs here and the short ones are 82mm as per your...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Thanks Jac Mac this makes a lot of sense and Russ will no doubt find your info helpful too. It's a bugger when you're not in the loop with these things sometimes. Sorry I couldn't make it down to see you this year but pressure of work and so far behind with GT40 engine, you know what it's like...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Russ I've just got back from the machine shop and I measured the depth of the threaded holes at 1.5" from the deck to the cup shaped floor of the hole. I used a push rod for the measurement so it's pretty accurate. Now an important point is that there is no rebate or countersink on the deck of...
