Closed and open Gulf-Mirage - wasn't it Weslake or BRM V12 powered or something ?

Re: 100\'s of GT40 photos!!!

Gulf-Mirage M2-M3 cars 1968-69

M2/300-1 to 3 ? covered with roof.
M3 roadster -open cockpit.
3 litre group 6 cars.
B.t.w. the lighter Gulf colours came from Californian Wilshire Oil company with Gulf took over..
It was choosen instead of "dull" old corporate colours...
1967 season the new BRM 24 valve 4 cam 3 litre V12 was introduced.
It was JWA´s choice, and a bad one..
ZF like the GT40.later on the DFV and aHewland DG300 and the new F1 style 48 valve BRM V12 with a claimed 450bhp.
GT40 style brake discs.
Worse aerodynamics than the GT40.
M3-DFV -redisigned and powered by the new 9-series F1 style tune Cosworth DFV V8....
said in late development at Austria GP to weight 840kg-1853lb.
Ickx qualified on pole pos.
Set fastest lap. ran away from the 917´s but retired of bracket shearing caused by notorious wicked vibration of early DFV´s...
Made it´s point but was not "ready" to race...
And then JWA went on to 917...

Re: 100\'s of GT40 photos!!!

I think that's a Ford powered Mirage not a BRM powered one. Of the three that were made 2 were reconverted into MKI's 1074 and 1075. The other one still exists and is for sale, asking $2 Million.

Re: 100\'s of GT40 photos!!!

The later pics are of the Mirage M1 !
Like a light weight GT40 with different roof line.
Also acted a bit as a test car of parts then used on the Gulf GT40ies etc...
The whole engine etc...
Etc...

M2 and 3´s are different cars...
But all run by JWA/ Gulf sponsored...

Chris, This has to be one of, if not, the best collection of GT40 photos ever!

Good Find!!

Re: 100\'s of GT40 photos!!!

M10001 is the Mirage for sale for $2,000,000.
M10002 was wrecked by driver Robin Widdows in 1967 at the Nurburgring, and subsequently
scrapped.
M10003 was rebuilt as #1074.
