1st Ashes Test - Wed 8-Sun 12 July Cardiff

Coincidently, as I pulled into the local park where I walk my Jack Russell Terriers, for the first time I've ever seen there, out on the playing fields, was a Cricket match. I watched intently but in my limited time in one spot(JRT's you understand) I could make no more sense of it than the Ayatollah's grasp of the infield fly rule in American baseball. The match was, however, accompanied by lots of yelling and running back and forth by the team members who were in...or would that be out? ...I don't know, but it was boistrous and they did seem to be putting quite a bit of energy into it.

Pete,
You are, of course, correct though I am expecting great things when play is resumed
and hope to post a derisory - almost insulting - no - really insulting post at stumps.
Hope springs eternal as usual but we've got a few wickets in the shed to go so
we'll see what gives.
I would hope that Steve Harmison will be called up before the Lords match. In fact I expect it.
Al - don't fret - it becomes second nature after a while - almost as satisfying as writing insulting letters to MPs. Forget the "in" and "out" labels - use "batting" and "fielding" and the field is divided into Leg and Off sides depending on the batsman hand - left or right handed, and lastly the outer edges of the field of play are called "Deep". If you use those terms, everyone will assume you know what you're talking about and fall silent.

Play is about to begin, David I am looking forward to your derogatory, nay extremely insulting post. It will mean the series will still have some life left and will give me the opportunity to reply in an even more insulting and wicked manner. Harmison back in? Lets hope not. Stay well.
Al, Jack Russell's are one of my favourite breeds, One saved my life by killing a Taipan which was about to strike at me when I was staying at a friends place in FNQ. The little blokes name was Hero and he lived up to it.

Go meet the guys in the park, they will be happy to explain the mysteries of fielding in slips and silly mid on, or in the deep, or at fine leg, or even covers where Punter loves to hit lot of four's.

P.S. Webber on Pole another Aussie win tonight I hope.

I'm with you here
Yes they played inthe rules but not in the spirit

I bet if their sponsorship / pay / expenses claims depended on sportsmanship it would have been a different story.
