599P Build

I just joined GT40's so I can do this build log....
I've busied myself with an engine out of a wrecked 599 GTB.
I've cleaned it up and paired it with a transmission from an F430. That bolted right up essentially. It just needed a 10mm spacer to clear the taller 599 clutch. Because I love ITB's, I made adapters to install two sets from the E46 M3. These are very well built and have an integrated vacuum rail to aid idle and low speed balance.
I made a custom harness for a Haltech Nexus R5. It is also using 2 DBW throttle actuators from the E46 M3 to make sure they'd be up to the task.
Here it is running on the engine stand:

I installed some small ceiling hoists so I can lift and store the body out of the way. I'm going to extend the controller cables so that I can put them off to the side. I'll also need to make some nice support hangers so the body doesn't distort up there. Has anyone else done a similar thing?

This engine didn't come with a timing pointer. I had rigged one up to check the timing while I was running it. Just had this one made. I designed it from a scan and the adjustable pointy bit is from an old piece I had for an SBC. My first aluminum 3D printed part! $60 delivered from CraftCloud. Great quality...

wow… that’s a hell of an engine. Is that a tank mounted behind the engine, between the exhausts, and on top of the trans?

That's the tank for the oil system. The 430 trans has an integrated oil tank for the dry sump. Pretty slick and it helps warm up the transmission since these things are a little tight shifting until they are warm. I'm working on some heat shields for that area now to isolate them from the exhaust. Behind it is the expansion tank for the coolant.

I just got my coil covers and valve covers back from powder coating (Had to redo the valve covers to make sure they matched). I had an F****** logo milled into the coil covers using a design copied from some pictures I found from the 275 GTB. Trying to make the engine look a little older.

Yeah, I my powder coater said he could do it. I want to stress test them first on the dyno to make sure nothing cracks before I do any coatings. I'm also a little worried about getting them dirty when they are white. I'm not the most coordinated person and tend to not think about my hands being dirty and touch stuff like that. It would look awesome, though...hmmm

Does anyone have experience with white coated headers? Do they clean ok or stain?

Just work on it while it’s hot. After the first time leaving all your skin burnt to the header, you will remember not to touch them.
Ask me how I know. !!!
