An Ambition acheived

Today I realised a 40 year dream and drove an original GT40 on its home test track - Goodwood. They say some things are worth waiting for, but in reality you suspect they will never happen, but this one did - and it was worth the wait. In fact the day alternated between driving the GTD " YELLOW PERIL" and 1088, an interesting comparison that was surprising by just how similar the two cars were, it certainly was not difficult to adjust to either car, even when directly jumping out of one into the other. So, if you wait long enough and pray hard enough it will happen to you as well !

Fantastic Frank, congrats - I've had a good day too.....
Had a ride in the Ford press car chassis 1008 and drove the Ford press new GT "1 FMC" - still buzzing !
I was amazed at how loud the solid lifters are in the original cars - deafening at full chat. The new GT really is an amazing piece of engineering, the gear shift and clutch are a dream to use, the brakes stand it on its nose and best of all its quick. It does feel like a big car when you are driving it though - not nimble like my car feels, maybe this is the soft suspension setup plus the extra weight.

Frank,

here's a pic of you in the car.
Shame you weren't smiling like you did when you came back :D

All the best,
John.

You're a lucky chap !

Presumably the 'John Willment Marine' logo on the side is not just a spooky coincidence ?

Can I ask for what sort of events is the car used ?

And another couple of the car :)

I've had to shrink the pictures to post them here, so if you want the orginal sizes pm me your email address and I'll forward them on :chug:
(taken with a 7Mp camera so each jpeg file is compressed to around 3Mb)

Cheers,
John.

jos, I wish !! :D

The car is not mine, but is owned by the guy who can be seen sitting in the car in the third picture (David if i recall correct, but I'm crap with names).

It needs some work, hence Franks involvement, and David hasn't had it for long. David told me he has a racing Jag (and several other cars), and wasn't sure if he'd historic race the 40 or not.

I just happened to be there to meet Frank and blag a ride in the yellow peril, seeing 1088 in action (and getting my hands dirty too) was a bonus !

Cheers,
John.

Awesome Frank!!!!
I bet it was a lot better than my Daytona Coupe!
I would be happy just to sit in an original GT40.
