Best QR steering wheel

There’s a quick release steering wheel on my GTD already, but while it’s pretty straightforward to put on and off, it’s fair to say there’s more than a touch of slack.
I like having the removable wheel option, but what’s the best (ie “tightest”) QR setup?
I’ve heard good things about the “works bell” rapfix 2 fitting. Anybody have any experience of the different makes?
Thanks

Simon;

I used a hex quick release on one car and had the same problem that you are having. On my latest build I use a Mark Williams spline quick release and it has almost no slack at all. There is a ring behind the steering wheel that you pull forward to release.

NO...I MADE AN ADAPTER FOR THE STEERING WHEEL AND FOR THE HUB

View attachment 93307

Hi Walt, your post caught my eye. I may have to do something similar since I have a odd-ball spline and there are no NRG short hubs which fit and I don’t want to weld one on. Can you provide a little detail on which parts did you buy from NRG and what did you have to fabricate?

Thanks!

Mike, did you make the adapter plate or where did you get it? The SPA 6 hole adapter plate is 70mm and the spacing on the Motolita is 78mm. Also does the SPA spline need to be welded? Thank you

I think it came from Frank Catt at Wealden Engineering. The plate can be easily made up from thick ally plate. Either very careful accurate drilling or if you know someone with a dividing head. The steel splined section has to be welded to the steering column. Usually turned and the other section drilled to ensure they are concentric before welding by someone competent.
Cheers
Mike
