bought a race car

I bought a Panoz today, do any of you guys have any experience with these cars? Panoz sold their school to Skip Barber and let these cars go for a song. I drove it a little today and it seems very well sorted.

I know a guy here in Michigan , Dave Robertson that has one ...he has had it for 2-3 years now...

I will find his info and forward it to you..

Now legal for SCCA GT2...

We were trying to get the FFR Cobra's homolgated into that class but that endeavor ran out of steam.. Seems that the SCCA didn't want any V8's in the class (that's what I was told).. When I mentioned that the Sunbeam Tiger was a V8 and was legal and that they had just brought the V8 Panoz into the class - they were done talking...

From what I know of the Panoz, they are well balanced cars with a very good power to weight ratio that made them very competitive but not too unruly..

12.5 thousand, complete with new tires, BBS wheels, fire system, sparco seats(2) and belts, huge Brembo brakes with new rotors and a few spares. I got mine from a friend that bought 10. I thought for that much it would be hard to get hurt if I needed to sell it.

Chuck, it is an awesome car. I have talked with a few people that have bought them.
You are all lucky to have got on board with this deal.

thanks Johan, it was a spur of the moment buy for sure , no time to really think about it. I will have to let you take it around the track so you can tell me what it needs.

Chuck,

I went through the 3 day road racing school at Road Atlanta back in June in those cars. I absolutely loved them! Every car seemed a little different in one way or another, but they are a great amount of fun. Enjoy the car....if you ever want to part ways with her, let me know!

yes it appears they are all set up a little different and I have heard that comment from others that have taken the school. I do not know where this will all lead but I do hope to get my license using it for DE courses and let my son do the same. I haver been very hesitant to use my GT40 or Daytona for DE simply because I did not want to tear them up and this car is much safer.

You did not happen to meet my friend Chad Odom of Greenville at the school did you?

YES I DID!! He is a very nice guy. He was in my class and we talked Superformance cars the whole time! Very nice guy. At the time he was interested in either a GT40 or a Daytona.

he bought 4 of the Panoz cars. He has driven my Daytona and is thinking about one now. I think since he has 2 Ford GT's he is going to pass on the GT40 for awhile. Chad is the guy that called me about the Panoz cars and I told him to pick one up for me and he did. It is now at his shop. He is about 3/4 through his 65 fastback vintage racer, it will be very nice as Chad does everthing first class. I remember him talking about you now after he got home from Road Atlanta.

That is fantastic! I am glad to hear he is doing well. I will have to drop him a line. Next time you see him tell him I said hello. I think a Daytona would work out well for him with his fascination with Shelby's. Enjoy the Panoz.....heck I might even try to buy one from Chad!!

he might very well let one go, I think he bought them for his staff to use for the most part, and If I know Chad he will have them looking new before too long. You need to come down to his shop some time, he always has 2 or 3 shelby cars being rebuilt.

I just got off of the phone with him and it sounds like things are really going well. We will all have to meet up at a track event sometime!
