Chris's AK GT40 Build

looks like your getting along nicely Chris.
if you have them, offer up the fuel tanks as the float access holes dont line up with the fuel tank float apperatures.
now is the time to elongate them to allow access for removal / fit of float gauges.
I also suggested to Phil that an access opening and cover is made to allow access to the crank pulley bolt to allow engine to be turned over as its a pain trying to do it in gear and rocking car .
Jerry

Yep annoyingly the float access holes don't line up, but they aren't too bad I'll need to get hold of some floats to see if I can fit them without modifying the holes

Also the bolts to attach the fual tanks are imperial so I've currently got them floating with 1 thread of M10s until I can get some 3/8 nuts

Yep those ones, I thought maybe that it was because they are covered in paint but I wasnt comfortable in applying significant force to tighten them up

Measuring them they are about 9.5mm which does line up closer to 5/8

Mine are 3/8" UNF. I had some of my grandfather's tools and fixings (imperial) and found the best fit, then bought 10 Nyloc nuts off eBay for £4

Thanks Phil, is assumed they would be UNC i'll need to double check the thread (I did mean to write 3/8 rather than 5/8)

does your tanks clear the breather tank fittings,i found with my sgt ones breather fitting in wrong place,so trimmed back inside studs and fitted 3/8 half nylocs also fit a washer rubber between the tank and the chassis. cheers shaun

Mine also,
i had to add 1/4" spacers to stop the tank from rubbing on the chassis. also had to elongate the holes to allow the tank to slide in towards the centre, this then allowed the body bits that cover the tank to fit in correct location.

Mine just fit, so I think I'm a lucky one on this or maybe AK have changed the pattern slightly. I am definitely planning on putting rubber washers there too
