Classic Car Developments Chassis #3

They are three piece wheels from Image Wheels in the UK. However, I wasn't keen on the standard look of the Image wheels, with a noticable gap between the centre and the rim and a pretty flat centre. To get a more original look I had some rings laser cut from 20mm aluminium plate, glued them in using aircraft grade epoxy, then had a sloping profile machined.

Brian, trying to choose the wheels very long time; I think You just gave me answer... Thanks!
I like idea of the 3-pcs wheels; you can choose width and ET-reading (backspace) exactly right with them, but like You, don`t like the gap, flatness and rear wheel "barrel look".

I went past the shop today. All 3 GT40's in there look to have progressed since I last saw them. Must be a bit easier for Dave having them all at a simpler point of build.

Nice work as usual Brian, I always enjoy your build.

The Avon stencils, whats the story ,did you do that and what paint did you use.
I run them on my car I like what you have done.

Yes - made the stencils myself. Paint is simply off white rattle can auto paint. From past experience any overspray is a bitch to get off rubber so I'm assuming it will last reasonably well.

Been a bit slack posting stuff recently, but there has been some progress.

Body initial prep done and carted off to CCD in Invercargill just before Christmas.

The boys at CCD have been flat out working on an SSK and Andrew's GT40 over the past 6 months, but got the roof on and the body onto the chassis in what spare time presented itself.

Windscreen fits and doors hung. Seats are back from the upholsterer.

At this stage I knew Andrew was champing at the bit to get his car finished so I asked the lads to lay off mine and concentrate on Andrew's. However, that hasn't stopped Petrus doing some work on my body at his home in his off time.

Lots of filling and shaping to get the gaps just right.

Some colour finally on. Titanium metallic (a Lexus colour).

Over the past few weekends Petrus was able to get the black on and the roundels done. Coming together well. Hopefully when I get back from the Le Mans Classic we can finish the one or two small jobs left to do on the chassis, get that painted, and then start hanging the suspension and uprights on it.

Not sure when it will get back to the workshop from Petrus's place Alan.

Hi Brian, you're a true gentleman for allowing the guys to get on with my car for the sake of yours. It looks like you, Jimmy, Alastair and me, may have something to truly celebrate very soon. See you at the LMC in July. Watch out for a bright yellow Europa TC, as I'll either be in it, or pushing it!

Well, I reckon it is time for an update. With John working on Andrew's car, and it being finally completed, the other lads have had some more time to spend on mine, plus I have managed a few days down at CCD myself to help out where I could.

Rear subframe done and then mono painted.
