Conversion of Ford SB to dry sump - educate me

THe aviaid GT40 wet sump pan is 6.5" high.

So the 4,5" Canton should be plenty, even the 5,5" aviad is plenty. As mentioned i still have the option of 3/4" to go down with the wetsump pan, but this would be only possible with modification of adapterplate ( holes relocating towards a more higher position) and modification of bellhousing plus a rigid engine mounting.

The minimum depth reqd for rod clearance on a SBF 8.200" block with a max of 3.400" stroke & 2.125" rod journal dia is 3.800". You could construct a dry sump pan with side collection pouch to that dimension, but it would be preferable to use around 4.500".
These dimensions could be reduced further for a 3.00" stroke & smaller rod journal dias along with smaller rod sizes.
The smallest starter ring we can get from QM etc is around 9" IIRC so there is little point in having a pan shallower than 4.500".
