Coolant recovery tank?

I was thinking of using a recovery tank to complement the pressurized expansion tank with expanding fluid.
My ideas are revolving around the standing cylindrical type. (See attached picture)
Would it be historical accurate or atleast plausible compared to an original GT40 or racecar of the 60s?
Placement is to be around the same area as the oil coolers was on some original cars.

I've never seen a recovery tank on any photos of original GT40's. Is there a reason you need one? My pressurized expansion tank (SPF) has a lot of capacity and has never blown coolant out because of heat expansion. Seems like non pressurized recovery tanks are common on newer road vehicles because coolant is filled to top of radiator.

Well, I have noticed that the car spews out a small amount of coolant from the pressurized tank after the engine turns off (have not seen it happen. So probably takes a while)
I believe this is caused by coolant standing still and overheats in the heads when the pump stop running.
I dont like leaks from the car and want to handle it with a recovery tank.
Possibly running the pump somehow when ignition is off would also solve the issue.

I used this Canton on my SPF. The SPF radiator cap is set up to simply piss coolant on the ground when its expands past the cap which I did not like. Even my 72 El Camino has a recovery tank. I also replaced the SPF cap with a 16 lb. non-vented MotoRad (which used to be STANT). I fill my header tank to the top. You don't want a gap of air there. So far this is working as I expected if would. I ran the recovery overflow out the back of the car connected to the lower subframe.

Looks nice Randy but will it fit as high as it needs to be?

My guess too wide to allow the rear clip to close hence the one above with a reduced height side

Ian, I might have to cut away the top corner of the recovery tank. Before I buy, I will make a cardboard mockup.
