DB's Aussie GT40 Build

I am currently building a GT40 Replica, Body and chassis was obtained from Kopelke Kitcars Queensland Australia, I have actually been building this car from the beginning of this year, up until now I have been making all the parts and storing them away, I have just started to paint the chassis panels so that I can start to assemble all the parts permanently.
I have built one before back in the 90's I drove it everyday sometimes all day and notched up over 50,000 miles before I sold it, regretfully-- must have needed the money, here is a couple of pics of the kit, I will post more as I start the completion process

Richard, Pelke as he is known by all, purchased the DRB moulds and is using a new all aluminiun monocoque chassis
I have just fitted fuel tanks to my car, they are made from 8 inch diameter aluminium tube, very simple, very little welds to leak, easy to fit to car, holds 40 litres each, I think that might be 10 gallons USA talk

I have also painted the rear of the chassis and fitted most parts ready for the motor to go in

another try with the picture ,the small pipes are breathers from the front and rear of both tanks they go into a charcoal cannister behind the header tank

I managed to get all my pedals sorted this weekend, really easy with access through the top cover plate

I have now fitted the radiator, A/C condenser, electric fans and steering column, the steering column is a standard GM unit with adjustable height and length, the steering column must be collapsible here in Australia for Registration compliance

Have added quite a few parts in the last month, car is now on wheels which makes it a car, before that it was just a collection of parts.

Flatchat I am trying a new design on the uprights, not releasing any details just yet need to test them and see how the perform, will post details after that, have actually done quite a lot since last post but mostly boring stuff like brake lines, water pipes, wiring looms, here is a pic of the Dashboard only thing worth taking a pic of

Thanks for sharing your build pics and info Denis. I’m just about to take delivery of one of Pelke’s GT40’s, I’m excited to start it….

This will be my first GT40, I’ve built a fair few cars over the past 20 years (Torana’s, Chargers, XY’s, XB’s etc), but never a GT40.
