Diff housing wanted

Hi

a guy close to my place is restoring an old FOrd ( i think it as a 36 to 38 model).
He found the rear diff housing is broken. So he is looking for a replacement

From what i could measure the ring is a 9".

My next door neighbor builds Ford rods. I've helped them move flatheads around, flathead V12s, diffs, and so on. Great guys. If you like I can take the laptop over and show him the pictures. Do you know the year exactly because I KNOW he'll ask. He would probably know what years interchange but they are meticulous folks that build period rods, sort of cool. They'll rod up a 32 or whatever they are building but they will only use parts available up to a certain year, like 1954 or so. In the end they have a cool looking rod but it is "correct" for the time.

How far is Offenburg from you? You have told me before, but I forgot.

I'd tell him not to worry too much about it Tom. If he takes it back to the dealership I'd bet it's still under warrantee. They'll probably just swap him out a new one!

Best wishes for the holidays to you and the family!

If you mean Offenburg at Strasbourg it is a app 4h drive
But you could come and stay overnight and than fly back from Munich.
I would be very happy to welcome you here.

Do you need the housing, or the piece the fellow has in his hand? The axle housing looks like it is just disassembled, not broken.

hi guys , i need to raise cash to pay for my new doner car SO i have decided to sell off one of my diffs to help out!! its a Eaton detroit locker, its a 28 spline locker, it was used For approx 2000 miles before the car came of the road for a rebuild and a strange complete 3rd member was purchased at a really good price so this has been stored in an oiled bag ever since, i have inspected it this afternoon and it is pristine inside.it comes with a complete 9 inch standard(believed mustang ) iron casing but no gears, £250 the lot...many thanks for looking, tony

The part that's broken is called the "Carrier Housing" or Carrier for short. It will more than likely not be compatible with anything modern even though it shares the 9" ring gear (crown wheel) diameter with relatively modern Fords.

I will be seeing a friend this weekend that has some old Ford parts and cars he is turning into street rods. If you can get the year of this rear axle assembly - I will relay that information and see if he can help. He's not electronically aware or I would forward him an email and link to this thread. He's one of the old die-hards that really has no time for anything electronic short of his transistor radio and small TV on the kitchen table.

Hi Ron

we would just need the parts in his hands, the rest is ok

Randy

i have written down the part number somewhere, i just need to find that hiding note

Depending on what he is doing the center section of these rear ends are the basis for the quick change rears that we know today. Speedway motors has the centersections that bolt to these axle tubes. Look under the hot rod stuff.
