Digital Camera Lens for Races

Guys,
I bought myself a Nikon D800 when they came out last year and since then I've using it with my old F4 short lenses.
Can anyone recommend a good all round Nikon wide/tele for high speed at tracks ?

James I too shouted myself a new Nikon recently but I got a D5100, great camera and for the track ive added a Nikor 55-300 tele lens, I find it great if you can get to within say 25-30 meters of the action, as you can then blow them up and crop down to get a good shot, a 500mm would be nice but maybe later.

Thanks mate.

This big thing will take a bit getting used to as I used to carry a little Leica before. But it's only good for snaps - very good 'schnapps" mind you !

The lenses are pricey so a second opinion is always welcome.

I had to get an FX system lens so I blew on a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8G AF-S ED VR II Nikkor lens today. A bit limited in length but very sharp according to the comics.
