Pete nice link. I don't know how revolutionary the concept is seeing as my parents had a 73 oldsmobile station wagon with a rear trunk which did the same thing. Rear window slid up into roof and door slid down. It was very cool. I guess you could call it revolutionary since no one has applied it to the side doors before though. Who is going to be first to apply the tech to their forty?
 
Also BMW z1 had the same ;) and the car was really nicer (and with fiberglass body)

Impressive, but not sure about some aspects, like can it be opened manually in the event of electrical failure, and would it be openable after an accident.

That car has been on Ebay for a looooong time. Well, off and on. Take a look and I'd bet you can pick it up pretty cheap by now.
