Does anyone own a GT40 in the DFW Area?

All, I'm located in the Dallas Fort Worth area (Southlake) and am seriously kicking around the idea of a GT40. I've been involved with Shelby's & Pantera's since 1975, and am looking for something a bit more exciting. However, a lot of people have cautioned me against buying a GT40. The main area's of concern they voice are size, comfort and not being able to drive it often enough etc. Now, I've never driven a replica, but have seen a number of real cars, and had a very close look at a Colorado based ERA car in 99 at the SCAT Shelby meet. So, here's my plea. Anyone in the DFW area have either a CAV/ERA/RF or??? car I can take a seriously close look at? No rush, but I'd appreciate the courtesy. Thanks a bunch & Happy Holidays,
Tom

Nice first post...Sorry I can't help,I look foward to the response of your quest.
I own a CAV , and love it.I purchased it at HRE Motor cars N.Y. Excellent product.
Finish line in Nev. or Florida Advanced Vehicals {FAV} in Fla. might be a place to start..........good luck.

If you ever come down to Houston, I live in The Woodlands and you'd be welcome to see mine. Aluminum panels are on, front suspension and brakes are on, raditaor mounted, working on fuel and rear suspension. So, not yet anywhere near running, but gives you a flavor...

Vic, Thanks for the kind words. I've seen lots of nice posts on the CAV vehicles.

Pat,

Thanks for the offer. I get down to Houston quite a bit, the company I work for is headquarted in Houston; BMC Software. So I might give that a try if I cannot locate any cars in the DFW Metro area.
Thanks for the offer!

You might call Gordon Levy (info should be on this Forum somewhere, he is the USA dealer for RF) and also ERA in Connecticut. A few years ago when I had some interest in an ERA they arranged for me to look at a car in Delaware which was not too far from me.
I have seen and ridden in real GT40s (Mk1 and Mk5) as well as an ERA. I have not seen an RF closeup but I expect the quality is first class. Actually, the Safir Mk5 was the best of the lot. The real car, being old, was not as tight or quiet as the others. Of course, you can't beat authenticity for the adrenalin rush....have fun looking. Shopping for a GT40 is the next best thing to owning one, and as for driving one- well, I don't think life gets any better than that.

Tom,

There is one... a CAV or perhaps a RF, located just North of DFW in the Highland Village area. I can't remember the guys name, but he invited me to stop by and have a look a few months ago, I never got around to taking him up on the offer, but I think he checks this board ocassionally. I'd still like to get over there and take a look too, call me if you find one close.

Thanks

The GT40 you refer to in Highland Village now resides in Massachusetts. I bought the car from Bob Lawrence in June. There was another GT40 builder in the DFW area that Bob was in contact with.

Mark,

Did you get my phone message about the tyre sizes !!!!

We are building a copy of the Gulf Le Mans car (chassis 1075) for a customer here in Australia and this car will be fitted with the rear flairs and wide wheels that I will send you. I will keep you informed.

Jim,

Many thanks for the kind words.

Best wishes to all for Christmas,

Robert
