DRB Handbrake

Does anyone have any experience with using '88 or later 'Vette rear brakes on a GT40 ?

For one reason or another, I ended up with these on my DRB, rather than the recommended '87 brakes.

The difference : The earlier units had a handbrake which operated on a mini-drum brake inside the disk rotor, whereas the later units have the handbrake operating on a lever which mechanically pulls the calipers together.

The problem : I have spent ages adjusting the later setup & am still not happy with it - too much "cable-pull" length required, too much effort required, only just meets the RTA regs of holding the car on a 17deg slope.

I need to develop biceps like Gov. Arnie to get the things to work ok ! There must be a better way (short of throwing a boat anchor out the back) !

Any ideas guys ?

Peter,

I did find a nice 40lb galvanized Danforth and 20' of chain

in my garage. That should do the trick! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is there any way to shim the contact point between the

calipers and the E-brake mechanism?

Trevor, I can't measure the effort required, but you & I could pull it on. However, there is no way that a "sweet young thing" could do it (not really relevant as the chances of any "sweet young thing" getting her hands on this car is absolutely zero) !!

Bill, I may take you up on the anchor - that way I could hold the car on a 90deg slope !!

Pete, no noise tests as yet. I am waiting for Trevor to find a suitable time-slot & we are going to do the noise tests & brake tests in the one big hit.

Kind Regards,

Does this mean that I will need to find a special load cell that wont measure more than 400 N.
