Engine Bay temperture

I 'm in the process of putting in the firewall and am planning the thermal protection between the engine and the cabin. Can somebody tell me what is the typical temperture the firewall/engine bay have to cope with?

Cheers

If you have to sit in traffic, I wouldn't be surprised to see the temperature rise to 120C in the engine compartment, mostly from the exhaust system. Once underway (hopefully) the temperature probably runs in the 70C-90C range. We use insulation with silicone foam on the firewall.

John,

See the 'Do It Yourself' thread on cockpit airflow. The use of an exhaust fan is helpful in the cockpit. A fan can be used to bring in (or exhaust) the air in the engine bay as well, especially when sitting in traffic.

Have fun!

John
