Estimated cost after ordering SL-C

I'm not talking about the engine or tranaxle. I'm talking about all the Summit and Jegs items.
Kinda trying to get estimate on how much all that stuff will cost after I happily give brotha Fran $45,000. I wanna make sure once i start i don't run into that "I need this part, but I have to wait for 3 weeks to get it"

Thanks guys

Unless you've built the car before and can fully visualize everything infront of you, or you have a fully stocked machine shop in your garage (which I'm getting the feeling some people on here do have  ), you will have those moments building ~any~ car.

Here's, for example, how my fuel went in my cobra

- okay, I'm all stocked up! (hoses, pump, regulator, fittings, etc...)
- Ooops; guess I should have bought all Aeroquip fittings, not generic Summit/Russel/Earls/etc... ones
- Ooops; guess I should hvae used only Aeroquip braided stainless hose
- Oops, why's my pump (Aeromotive external) leaking?
- Hey, why's my pump (Aeromotive external) leaking again?
- hey, why's my 3rd (Aeromotive external) pump leaking again?????

Or, for positioning my ISIS units, I don't want to just screw them down to the frame. I want to screw them onto a plate, and then bolt the plate to the frame (so if I have to remove it, I can quite easily). Since I don't have sheets of 1/4'' al laying around, or a cnc machine, I waddle over to my aluminum fab. place, give them the specs then wait a day or two to pick up my brackets.

etc.. etc...

Just all part of the game. Although I have found a popular saying to be true - excluding the price of (any) kit, figure out how much you think yuo'll need in extras, then double it, then you'll hit your target bangon

But in the end it's definatley worth the "hassle"

Btw, right or wrong at the moment, here's how I'm (!roughly!) breaking down post-SLC-order prices for my build in my head

engine - 14,000
transaxle - 9,000
starter - 1,600
clutch - 1,000
cooler - 500
tires - 1,600
fuel - 1,200
main electrical - 1,600
secondary electrical (e.g., quality weatherpaks, heat shrink terminals, txl wiring, etc..) - 600
exhaust - 3,500
custom fabrication - 2,000

So basically I'm shooting for around $40k post-kit-purchase items, plus the cost of bodywork/paint if I went that route.

Thanks alot ALEX.

Fortunately, I have a full shop at my finger tips for fabing most sheet metal parts. but thats about what I was looking for. The Aeroquip stuff had me cracking up, cause I have been there, "Got the T-shirt" to prove it. LOL

But $1600 for a starter, what the hell kinda starter are you getting?

Thanks again

Post kit stuff will depend on how you build the car also. Full race, street or combonation.

It all so depends on the brands and quility of the products you use.

I am afraid to get a total cost on my last two cars I built, personally.

Ricardo uses a special ford GT starter; apparently he's very expensive. :lipsrsealed:

I wonder if NAPA would have one for $100
(actually, now that I'm wondering about it, I wonder if other transaxles also use expensive starters; those out of a porsche can't be cheap, or atleast I'd think so.........)

For a rough estimate I've always heard double the price of the kit to get the total investment in the project. That leaves some room to hire others to do what you can't, including fabrications and computer tuning, etc.

Well my plans are. Full street build, CF wheels, differant auto guage, steering wheel, full stereo and suade & leather interior. With a few custom treat. Not going to do alot in that area cause Fran has put alot of hard work in testing his design.

Besides I wanna beat the SSC AERO top speed record of 253.00 MPH.

Fran, if your listening. I hope this thing won't take off once we break the 230MPH mark. lol..

Sorry for the slight thread drift but are there known quality issues with Aeromotive external fuel pumps? I was planning on using all Aeromotive filters, regulator, pump, etc. for my SLC.

Thanks,
Dave L

yes/no

Most of their stuff is very reliable, except except except their external electric SS fuel pump. What I found with it is that in cold temperatures (usually below -5*C), after startup it would seep fuel from the joint (where the body of the pump meets the motor/top of the pump for a good 4 or 5minutes before it would stop.

I went through 3 pumps that did the exact thing. Never happened in 'warmer' temps. When I called them, they explained it was a safety feature (something about not letting fuel backup inside the pump). Sorry, in my books seeping like 10+oz of fuel is not a "safety feature".

When I researched this issue, I foudn several people, locally (mustang forum) as well as online that had the ~exact~ same "problem" with the "safety feature"

Needless to say I think you'll be over the 100k mark ... welcome to the club

David,
Tallahassee is at latitude 30.438
I'm at latitude 28.034
We're supposed to be warmer than you!
28*F (-2.2*C) this morning here, very close to that -5*C mentioned.
It really SUCKS!

Jack,

Same here in Texas! I should have flown down to mi casa in Cabo this week!

BTW, I'm confident in and using the Aeromotive EFI system as well.

yea, I would do a little research before I forked over 1600 for a starter. You can get a hi torque for about 170. Plus, i don't see the Ford engineers redesigning somthing as simple as a starter for a production car.

It's difficult to pin down all of the Jegs/Summit costs since it would vary fairly widely depending on the engine/transaxle combo and whether, as in my case, you need to buy more braided hose/AN fittings, etc for the dry sump system and for the engine/transaxle oil coolers. Stock or custom headers, exhaust, cats/mufflers?

Another example: several of us have changed the wheel studs to longer ARPs, you'll have choices to make concerning the type of fuel pump system to use, battery type, ECU type, wiring harness upgrade(?), paint/no paint, etc.

Additional materials such as aluminum tubing, angles, sheets, SS fasteners, sound insulation/heat dissipation, leather/"pleather"/alcantra/carpet materials, and on and on.....

I do think you can build one in the 2X base range but mine will be more like 3X ++.
