I thought the crown of those pistons was interesting.
Seeing them forged from alloy reminded me of an australian fella that was in the car mags atleast 10 years ago. From memory he was retired and had spare time so though he would look at forging his own parts like intakes, throttle bodies, heads etc. He did it by creating a design he liked then sectioned the whole thing into lots of slices, cut these from wood then assembled. allot like how you build a pulug from a 3d model. From there he made the mould etc etc. Anyhow his work was great, simple, and showed how anyone can with some knowledge make their own parts.
In the article he said he was working on some high performance engine design made on the same principles. Unfortunately that's where the story ends.... At the time it got me thinking about creating a custom block and crank to accept motor cycle parts to create a high revving small displacement V8. I lost interest when i seen that none of the manufacturers made a engine with a reversible head (ie the bmw v12 sohc head is the same both sides, you just flip it around and bolt the dizzy, drive sprockets etc on the opposite end).... Anyhow a little while later i noticed someone had done with with a Hyabussa engine although they ended up making nearly all the parts including a new head/s.
