front dress/ water pump pulley

Hi trying to get the shortest water pump for a sbf motor , i found one in the ford motorsports book that is and 1+1/2" shorter than the reg. one but they no longer sell the pulleys that go with that pump . The ford hotline gave me a # to a street rod vender who makes billet pulleys but he is a little pricey. Plain steel ones would be great, any ideas thanks Bob

I believe the absolute shortest is the Explorer front dress. It uses a special cam cover, water pump, and harmonic balancer. Most of it can be found used on eBay. There were a lot of crate motors delivered in this trim and many of these were cast off parts. This is a serpentine set up, and it is what I am running on my GT40.

There is only one issue with the [V8]Explorer serpentine set-up and that's the lower bracket idler pulley bearing(NOT the tensioner pulley bearing). This is a small bearing and due to pulley size, runs fast even in the normal vehicle(maybe 5200 engine rpm max). Not long-lived at high r's.Ask me how I know.Other than that,it's fine. This configuration uses an upper right side alternator,an upper left/middle power steering pump and lower left a/c comp. A.J.

The previous post was for those interested in how the Explorer drive is configured in the oringinal vehicle. If none of the vendors/builders who support the forum have what you need, there's a shop called Performance Engineering,LLC who supplies their own drive set-up with their GT40 specials.I have not looked at it or priced it,just know they have it so it's up to you to check it out.

Some older pulleys available from Spectre Perf.you'd have to try a match up for length.
If you use the Ford racing short pump, the kit(p/n M-8501-A50) is avbl through Summit for $185 and includes timing cover, gaskets and pump. The matching pulley kit for serpentine belt (p/n M-8509-M) goes for $210 and includes the crank/water/altrntr pulleys.Or go the Explorer pump/cover/balancer route per Jonathan.

I have a set of pulleys from Dynatek. They work in a SPF GT40 with the short Ford pump. The picture is one I took of Lynn Miners engine just before it went in and they work with the SPF brackets provided with the car.
