gauges

does anybody know how to hook up only one fuel gauge on a 96´´ gtd i have double fuel pumps,im adding a oil temp gauge and dont want to mess up my dash

Geeteedee,

Personally I fitted an extra gauge on the right hand side. I also moved some gauges around as I couldn’t see the vital ones (water temp and oil pressure) because of the steering wheel.

If you want to use one fuel gauge you can just join the two tanks together at the lowest level – this was a standard build option to save a small amount on one pump/regulator pair.

You can either T the lines together and leave one pump/regulator as a dummy/spare (you need to ensure it is blanked off underneath even with non-return valves as you musn’t leave a possibility of fuel pumping into the sill), OR you could put a T in both lines and join the third connections together. It’ll cost as Goodrich hosing isn’t cheap (assuming you have this type).

It’s quite straightforward but if you can’t make up hose ends you have to get a specialist garage to do it. I made my own ends up (its relatively easy if you are careful) even though I hadn’t done any before.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Re the fuel gauges problem - First check to see if your fuel pump select switch is a double pole change-over (6 contacts) or a single pole version (3 contacts). If it is a double - one set of three should be free to use.

Now take the the signal/feed wire from each tank sender and disconnect from the two guages, reconnecting to the unused outside terminals either side of the switch instead. The unused center connection on the switch can then be used to feed the remaining fuel guage with the required sender signal.

This will enable the guage to indicate how much fuel is in the tank that is actively being pumped from.

Hope that makes sense - if not let me know and I'll mail you a diagram.

IMPORTANT! - Please do be sure that you are happy modifying your wiring before attempting the modification. Whilst relatively straight forward, believe me, electrical fires are not fun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

thanks a lot bosse, do u remember what offsets u run on your 17´´wheels ..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
