Sad.... :(

I've seen flatbed trailers with as many as 20 of these bales stacked up on them going down the road at 70 MPH. I often wondered how many times a strap has failed and unleashed the load on the road...
As I understand it - each one (dry) weighs close to 2,000#

Was quite shocked to see this in the local rag the other day, not 10 miles from me.....

The paper reckons 50 stone. Thats only 700lb or 320Kg, no chance! More like a Ton or even a bit more.

Probably depends on whether the hay is fresh cut - will be heavier when fresh cut than after sitting and drying out. In any case, that's enough weight to do you in when travelling at 70mph...or even 30mph.

A shame to see an accomplished and obviously diverse and intelligent guy end up like that. I've seen some things come loose on the road before and thankfully it has always been harmless. I never drive behind loaded trucks. This poor bugger was just driving down a nice country lane when WHAM out of nowhere a huge bale nails him.
