Handbrake

Any recommendations on handbrake mechanism lever for inside,cbs one is flimsy and cheaply made,what else has other builders used.

the originals used an early ford one, from an Anglia if i remember correctly. Most hand brake mechanisms are similar. id just head down to the wreckers/U pull It, and find one you like. Ultimas used an early Mini one if i remember correctly. Early Subaru ones (EA motor cars) into the late 80s were still a fairly basic design as well. Most commercial vehicles also have a basic hand brake lever with not to much plastic around them. So look there as well.

I would avoid the cane type . I have owned a car for nearly 30 years with a cane type handbrake pull , it's on my list of upgrades.

Hi,
although not original, I'm currently building one using a handbrake lever from a BMW-MIni, mainly selected as the lever ratio, is much higher than either a more period Anglia/Mini item. This coupled with a Wilwood handbrake caliper, there's a good chance it will get through an IVA

The EA engine Subaru cars I mentioned had a cable operated handbrake as part of the disc brake mechanism on the front wheels. This was on the Brat/Brumby Ute. So this may also have a similar ratio. not sure. just putting the information out there.
