Hello from the UK, I need some help please...

Hello everyone.

I am mainly here to ask for help.
I am builing a MK1 escort with a 330bhp Cosworth turbo engine. I live in the UK, however a friend of mine sent me some pictures of a MK1 escort in Germany with the Gulf GT40 colours on it.

I am replicating this car here in the UK. What I need to know is, what are the colours of the GT40? The official words used to describe the colours or any paint codes or numbers I may be able to use to help get my car sprayed in the exact colours.

Below is a picture of the car I am copying. All help will be appreciated. And if anyone is interested my website is www.rsyod.com It is a non profit site which i created for fun.

Many thanks

Yodi

I know that you are new, but use the search engine and go way back. Colors have been discussed before along with paint codes if I remember correctly. Using the serach engine before posting on the forum, especially when new, will generate lots of friends. Hope you enjoy the forum, best,

Ron

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the advice. I have searched but people seem to have different opinions on codes, i mainly read the Mazda Mx5 post but to be honest not that much usefull info. Im sure someone here has the codes for both colours, surely???

Also this bb doesnt let me log back in as my original name so i had to recreate another account, any ideas???

I know its not a GT40 but PLEASE PLEASE help.

Many thanks, Yodi

Yodi,

You should be able to get the paint through a British Leyland(ex-Triumph) dealer. Try P030-8013 Triumph Powder Blue & P030-3393 Triumph Marigold(from a Gulf car order sheet). I don't know the code for the dark blue stripe running between the Powder Blue and Marigold.
Berger Paints made the paint for some Gulf cars, but the codes were different from those listed above. That would explain the different shades of paint on some of the Gulf cars.

If I recall the general conculsion was finding the "real" color would be impossible. Since different teams built the cars, raced them, and painted them then the colors were bound to differ. Best bet would be to use color on a car you like and make it work, I'm sure you could pull that off. Or, see what people that are using Gulf colors have done. Malcolm in the GTD car club has a Gulf car that seems to have colors that are very accurate. Maybe he could help out..
