Hi all , from somerset. UK

Hi everyone, My name is Luke and I bought a couple of years ago a MK3 KVA from a hedge in Barry island in south Wales. The car has a known history and was bought by a fellow GT40 club member stripped and this body was sold/discarded in the process whilst he retained the chassis running gear. Luckily for me I have access and secured a 1984 KVA chassis that is brand new so looking to build a new car from it retaining the MK3 body. Initially I would of loved a mk2 ideally but the MK3 is different and I've grown to really like it as i have researched more and the fact you rarely see them. there are some amazing builds on here and are incredibly inspiring.

Im a bodywork guy and a reasonable fabricator so looking to do most of the work myself and learn as much as i can. i never thought i would ever have the opotunity to own a gt40 rep so i am currently selling other cars and assets to fund the build.

initial plan is

302 motor that I already have all be it in bits

Audi transaxle again I have acquired

Retain the KVA suspension on the front the rear end will need to be lengthened for the MK3 body so might go to southern GT and get them to modify it and update the rear suspension

I still go loads to learn and figure out but assembling parts over time. my best mate has a MK1 gt40 so its cool we are building both cars in tandem all be it in different directions.

I look forward to researching and speaking to you guys. the body is in really rough shape so I have plenty of work ahead of me.

Cheers

Luke

If you can post some chassis pics it would help in identifying exactly what you have. I have some KVA info but would need to know what you have so I can find the relevant bits. If you join the GT40 Enthusiasts Club there will be a group near you so you can meet up with owners who can help you with many things.
Cheers

Hi Luke ..... welcome to the forum.
You say the car has a known history but don't actually state whether it was actually SVA or IVA tested and road registered. Knowing this is important so that the UK folk on here can give you valid input going forward. If it's never been tested there are many potholes to fall into during a build.
You will find this forum to be a huge resource with a wealth of knowledgeable members.
Make sure you reply to Mike Pass (above) as he will no doubt be able to give you input on the original chassis and the one that you have acquired.
Cheers
Steve.

I recognise that body!! Welcome to the forum Luke. You've got some work to do but that's the fun. Let me know if I can be of any help. I did all my suspension arms here with a friend. If you want new (lengthened) versions for yours we might be able to help. You're right, the body is rough but repairable. I wanted a MK1 shape so that's why I sold it

Hi everyone thank you for the messages. Thanks Mike will get some pictures when I'm next with it hopefully next week any help would be appreciated.

Hi Steve, so the logbook and body went on another car so will be essentially a new build although I would love to try and avoid a Q plate if possible just have to do some more homework. I've build and been involved with a few different kit cars over the years but need to look into this in more detail. Appreciate any help/advice

Chris , any help with those arms would be a fantastic help

Hers some pictures of the car prior to it being striped. The chassis I have acquired is brand new never been built but is currently at my best mates as he's using it to take measurements for his build ( he's making his own chassis)

Hi again Luke ...... right, so this is effectively a build from a fresh start. The very first thing to do is get the current IVA test documentation. This is a very large and complex document. You need to study it, study it and study it again.
To avoid a Q plate there can only be ONE re-conditioned part included in the build, everything else needs to be new and you need receipts to prove this.
You will also need as a minimum an engine dating certificate for the engine you intend to use. You said you had an old engine that you intend to re-build. Have a look at the cast iron block for the serial number and post it on here ...... one of us will then be able to tell you the year of the block.
One of the current grey areas is that the current government has stated and repeated again this week that it will NOT be possible to register a NEW internal combustion engine car after 31st December 2029. There is hope amongst the UK kit car community and industry that what is known as 'Small Volume Manufactures' will get a dispensation to build a limited number of ICE powered cars after 2030. The hope is that cars subject to an IVA test will also get an exemption. However, at this point in time no Kit car manufacturer has received any formal communication from the Department of Transport (DfT). This is causing a number of UK builders (who are on this forum) to speed up their builds.
Myself and others are watching all government statements and are in contact with the manufacturers.
I note you mention 'Southern GT'. Mick Solis sold the business some time ago to AK Sportscars based near Peterborough (contact is Jon Freeman).
The other long established and reputable GT40 replica company is Tornado (contact is Andy Sheldon).
Glad to see that Mike Pass has sent you a private message.
Don't hesitate to keep asking questions ...... we'll do our best to help.
Cheers,
Steve.
