Holley Easy Level to Koso

I'm having nothing but problems trying to get the Holley Easy Level to communicate correctly with the Koso. Has anyone been able to get these to to communicate correctly. I've reached out to both Holley and Koso with no answers yet.

I'm re-wiring my car now. Putting one in along with the change, but I'm going to wire it into the ECU.

Assuming you get no where with support, my suggestion...

Calibrate it over a 5 gallon bucket: Suspend it over the center of a 5 gallon bucket. Fill that bucket with enough water that the distance from sensor to water emulates an empty tank, calibrate to empty.

The sender (in theory) will change it's reistance while you are doing the calibration, so it should work with the Koso with whatever the 'default' setting is.

If you get empty calibrated, fill the bucket to simulate half and full to calibrate those spots.

Frank,
Thanks for the suggestion but that isn't the issue. I've been able to calibrate the sender which appears to be reading the distance to a target with no issue. The problem is that the Koso gauge does not respond correctly (or at all) to the sender. I've tried most of the resistance setting including custom values that I got from Holley and nothing changes (even added the 680 ohm resistor). I'm beginning to think that these two units are not compatible. I'll reach out to Bill at RCR to see if he has any info.
Cheers

The old Koso (not sure if different from what is manufactured today) used either a 100 or 500 ohm setting for fuel level.

You need to match your Holley sender to the Koso ohm range

I'm not familiar with their easy level, just the traditional senders that have a bent arm and a fixed ohm range (e..g, fixed 240-33), but it says it's programmable so it seems like you have to ask Holley how to program the unit to output a 100 or 500 ohm signal.

The EZ-Level doesn't output a true resistance value -- it outputs a 12V PWM signal, which seems to work on Holley dashes. Classic Instruments, and Autometer gauges. I have one that I tried for months to get to work with my AIM dash and wasn't able to get it going even after talking with Holley tech support and AIM tech support.

I'm sure you've already checked, but there's a bunch of documentation out on the Holley website as well: https://www.holley.com/products/gau...50-1?msockid=07740a69dab4653b09b0188adbbc64d6

Finally got clarification from Fran regarding the Holley sender to the Koso gauge. They are NOT compatible in that the Holley send voltage and the Koso want's resistance measurement. Actually Koso said that it could potentially fry the unit. Fran is going to swap out my Holley Easy Level with a Holley resistance sender and I'll see if that solves the issue.

I received the new fuel sender from Fran which is a resistant style from Classic Instruments. Getting the Koso gauge programed to work with this sender was pretty straight forward but you have to use the custom resistance settings because the resistance is "0" ohm at empty and "90" ohms at full levels which is the opposite of what the Koso is preprogramed to look for. I needed to tweak the full level setting to 85 ohms because it would not register "full" at any value greater than 85 ohms. This sender is also easier in that it doesn't need to be programed or needs any switched power.

In the install the front screw mount and the tabs on the top of the gauge needed to be reduced in order for the closeout panel to fit over the sender. Hope this helps anyone else that may be coming up against this problem.
