Hub bolts

I have the 15" pin drive wheels. The problem I have is that the lugs/bolts in the hubs of the C-4 units are too long for the nuts to be secured holding the pin drives on. As the allen wrench spins them down the lug then pushes the allen wrench out of its seat and the bolt is not able to be torqued down. I have consulted the Corvette guys and they don't know of a shorter lug/bolt. Consulted NAPA and they have a standard length and an extended length. You know mine is the standard length. Unless there is an option, I will have to cut the bolts down to fit. they all have a knurl fit and will have to be pressed out and back in. Not looking forwatrd to that. Any suggestions would be welcomed for a solution. Pics tell the story.

Hey Bill,

On my old RF I ground them down with a die grinder. Yes, a bit messy for sure and is not the fastest way to do it, but didn't require removing them.

When i installed knock off wheels on my cobra replica i had to cut about 3/8 -1/2 off the stud to make the allen wrench fit , i used a cutoff wheel and ran a thread chaser over the studs after no need to press them out good luck Bob

Bill, instead of cutting the studs, what about turning new pins and machining the ends to accept a socket instead of the inside for an allen. This way you keep the full legnth of the stud for stregnth and can tighten the pin with a socket. I don't know if you will have enough meat on the pin to do it though.

Bill, if you do decide to cut down the lug bolts with a hack saw or die or ? one thing you might find helpful is to put the appropriate thread tap on the bolt and wind it right down first, then, cut the bolt. Doing so will allow you to run the thread tap up the lug bolt after you have cut and trimmed the bolt and thereby clean up the threads more precisely.
