inlet manifold

Any one got photos of where to put the silicon beads on the gaskets and surround as I am getting a persistent problem of oil and water in valley and sump

Its described as a 1/8 bead of silicon prior to placjing the gasket followed by a 1/16 bead on the gasket arround the water channels

Air Box

Does anyone have a picture of an air box that might be suitable for a cross over intake system ? I am thinking of using the void immediatley above the intakes as the "box" and sealing from the bottom of the void down to the valve covers, any ideas gratefully accepted.

Hi Huw,

the std here is typically dry on the heads and manifold, a smear of cement (if anything) to bond the gasket only - but silicon accross the deck top between the heads.

You may need to check the angle of the manifold face vs the angle of the heads.
The injector bosses, in some cases, are welded onto the manifold, in this case we remachine the manifold face where it meets the heads as this area will distort slightly.

I think your problem may be a mismatch between inlet manifold water passages and your heads. I had this problem, my local engine builder tried 6 different inlet manifold's he had in his shop until he found one that fitted correctly my aftermarket heads!, my engine expired as a result, so get it checked!

It's possible that the heads have been milled. If so and if a lot then you will have a hard time making the intake fit. If this is the case then the intake head face's will need to be milled to the "new" angle presented to them from the work done to the heads. Not a really big deal but it must be done carefully.

If you could tell us the type of heads and intake and any history of the heads, intake and block we might be better able to help.

If all is stock then clean dry gaskets with just enough gasket cement to hold them in place and a bead of RTV on the ends of the block/ intake surface. I like the blue stuff sold in auto parts stores made for this purpose. c the intake will come off easy and it seals well. Be careful when you select RTV. Some types of this stuff isn't easy to get off. Use a automotive silicone gasket product and you will be OK.

You might want to take a straight edge to the intake surfaces of the heads and intake just to check to see if they are square. Double check gaskets against your head to make sure they mate hole for hole.
