Interesting video

Yeah, let's talk cars. Why the "Y" in SpyderMike? Previous Alfa ownership?
And the plane avatar? Is that a Piper? Do you fly out of Corona?
Everytime I see your posts I always wonder.

Thanks for asking Triumph Mike (by the way I have a 2004 Bonneville - stock though - not tricked out like yours).

My first ground up car build was a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder replica (Beck Spyder); this was in 1989. I still have it. I started my internet chatting then on the Spyder Club website. My brain is so small that I use the same username on all the websites that I visit (not the same password though, so don't nobody get no ideas).

The plane is a Cirrus SR22, and, yes, I have one. Flying is my other hobby. I also am building a plane in my garage. I fly out of Chino when I am in So Cal.

Where in the High Desert are you?

Regards,
Mike

Beck Spyder - those are nice cars.
For about 10 years I had a hangar at Whiteman Airpark (WHP) and was part owner of a Stits Playboy. I am now in Apple Valley but airplane and hangarless. My friend Dave had a Hangar at APV for a while. Was a great place to hang out and drink beer.
Chino is a wonderful airport with all that vintage aviation stuff going on.
15 years ago I nearly bought a Beech 18 at Aero Traders. It was one of those rare times in my life when I had the Time, the Money and the Space to enjoy restoring it. But I have to admit that I chickened out.
What are you building now? LanceAir? Isn't Cirrus the one with the emergency parachute?
Anyway - thank you for solving the mystery of SpyderMike:)

Stits Playboy - sure I know that plane...very nice! That was the plane that Van's modified with metal cantilever wings to make the start of the RV series wasn't it?

I have had an early hangglider, a Benson Gyrocopter, a Mooney A10 Cadet (Mooney's version of an Ercoupe), a C-172, and this Cirrus. Flying is in my blood I guess. The plane I am building is no longer available - it is a Rans S-16 Shekari. One of about 25 in the world. It is a two place tail dragger powered by a Continental IO240. I am going on 8 years into it (with the last two years doing nothing but stepping around it).

The Cirrus is a nice cross country plane - 4 place with Continental IO550 310hp - cruise is 200mph with a range over 1000 miles. It does have a whole plane parachute among other gadgets. I do keep it at Chino, which is, as you said, an awesome airport for a guy like me. Every time I go there I see something interesting. Every time I head out there I see cool stuff like Beech 18s, P51s, a P38, a F6F, a B17, L39s, ...not to mention the homebuilts there...just awesome.

Mystery solved...thanks for asking-

Mike

We are in the middle of a global economic crisis and you guys want to talk cars?!

When I was in school I had a Toyota Corona 4dr that I cut the top off. Someone put a hose in it and filled it up with H20. I took it to the scrap yard and made $100 over the buy price.

Hey, I had a Toyota Corona red four door as my high school car - I blew the motor up in it by getting in the car with my feet crossed and redlining it then dumping the clutch.

Never thought of cutting the top off....that must have been one sweet ride.

I'm another aircraft buff, outside of the Sarth, Chino is my favorite spot on earth.

Every time I go there I look around - I always see something new. I park my plane right by the tower near those new (vintage looking) hangars.

Here is a picture of my 8 year garage wart...and a picture of what it is supposed to look like finished (but without gear fairings).

Was that $100 with or without the cut-off top? :)

Why heck, Mike, looks like all you need are a couple of those wing thingies and you're good to go! Ever fly sailplanes? I went for a ride recently and had a blast. There were strong thermals that were like an express elevator all the way to 5,200' AGL, beautiful puffy clouds, and the guy let me land it. You can get a pretty sweet little glider for not a lot of bread. I may be hooked.

Jim - there used to be a very nice antique fly-in at HalfmoonBay. That's just a hop, skip and a jump over the hill from you. I always enjoyed the Warbirds in the morning fog. Good memories.

Yes they still have it, now they have added cars as well, I was thinking of adding my 40 next year.
