"JANG".. Just Another New Guy

Howdy all, I've been reading the forums and I can say you all are an amazing wealth of knowledge.

I'm 38 this year and thinking that I'm about 2 years out from starting my build. I can tell you all that I am very mechanically DE-clined. But reading all your posts is helping me understand the level of help I will need.

SO, with that said... I will be checking in from time to time as I start collecting the items I will need when the starter pistol goes off on my build. My goal is to be completed by 45th birthday.. lets see

Still up in the air, but with my limited fabrication knowledge, was thinking about a RCR MK1 build (gulf style), with a 427ci, married to a Porsche transaxle. But, I'm not sure how that will fit and how much my learning curve will whip me down..lol

Hey Mike!

Welcome to GT40s..

Not sure about a 427FE fitting well under the deck of a MK1, but there are other options such as a stroked Windsor 351/427..

Mike - if you're not mechanically inclined, you might think about a Superformance car that doesn't require near the amount of work. Or possibly purchasing an existing GT40 from someone who has built a quality car. I've had my car for two years, and enjoy every minute I spend in it.

Dave... You know I thought about purchasing a fulling build kit.. but I don't know... I feel like I would miss out on something.. My dad and I build my first truck.. an old "79 big 10 Silverado with a 383 stroker motor. Of course he did most of the work.. but I loved that truck and it meant so much that I want that feeling again. Something that I created. I might surprise myself...lol

You ask abt a 427ci in a MkI. I say usually the MkI all had small block engines. The MkII was designed for the big block 427 FE. Not to say you couldn't fit one. I think it has to do with the cross-member in the car and the firewall. Superformance (MkI) can be fitted for a big block. I don't think one of the 5.4L engines will fit though. Somewhere in this GT40 there is a line drawing overlay showing the different engines and their dimensions. It should help you decide how 'big' you want to go. You can always go with a SB 427 also that should fit in the MkI. Good luck with your decision....
