Jeffs RCR GT40 MK1 Build

Nine months since car ordered, still waiting patiently, no response from RCR on status. Have been working on the wiring loom supplied with the Terminator X kit. It arrives as a "universal kit", so I have been dismantling it and wiring up the engine bits, leaving the ECU ends de-pined so I can cut the lengths when I determine ECU placement in the car. The Holley forum is a big help on connectors/pins etc.

Well, as the new year approaches, I will be at the 1 year anniversary of my car order.
Still waiting patiently with no delivery in sight.
Hopefully next year at this time I won't be still waiting

Hi I'm Jeff, and I am an addict.
Addicted to European vintage sports cars/bikes.
70 year old, retired engineer, tired of cleaning, painting, old crusty parts. Have always loved the GT40, and decided my next project would be to build one.
So yesterday pulled the trigger, and ordered my RCR GT40 Mk1 deluxe plus kit. Details:
  • LHD
  • Double nostril front panel
  • 15" Halibrands
  • Prestige stroker 302 long block
  • Transaxle: 986, or 987 ( need to research/decide)
  • Window hardware
  • Door boxs
  • Hartwell latches
  • Door eyebrows
  • Bundle of snakes exhaust
Thats it for now I will be finishing up my remaining projects, doing more research, and ordering parts.
Regards
Jeff
Welcome Jeff, placed
My order 16 months ago……….1 Aug 2024. No car yet. Hope you are a patient man.
I do have my drive train at home. 427sbf Ingeles stack injection. Term X controlled, Quaife transaxle

Joel, check your engine stand from Prestige. I just got my engine out of the crate yesterday, only to find one leg was already broken. The opposite mount had only (2) bolts in it and was a bit loose. I believe that was because my oil pan heater wire is directly behind it. My theory is with that loose and the bottom bolted the truck ride let it wiggle back and forth allowing it to break. I might not have noticed right away, but when I unbolted the bottom screws in the skid, it sprung about a inch. It’s worth checking out.

Brian, a question, not directly related with the subject, but I never heard about a "oil pan heater wire". What is it for, to preheat oil before strating ?

Jeff, sorry for the thread drift. I will refrain from posting on your build thread after this. I need to start a build thread on my engine. I am getting a RCR Lola T70mk3b from Fran.

Hello Jean-Marc. Yes, because this is a “race inspired “ engine and won’t be run often, I had a oil heater installed. I also have (2) engine block heaters installed. This way, I can bring the block and oil up to operating temperature before starting. This helps with the bearing clearance’s associated with a race engine. Once upto temperature, there is a oil priming pump on the remote oil filter. It is designed to be run with a drill, but I’m thinking of using a belt drive so I can run it for a bit before starting. A little overkill, but I have a ton of money in this thing.

So I've waited long enough, I'm done waiting
I'm out, going to cancel my order with RCR and move on.
I'm not going to be ignored, hoping my half completed kit shows up before I die, and leaving a mess for my widow to deal with.
My power train is for sale, PM 347. CVF accessories, CMS rebuilt/upgraded G96, $35K, pick up only.
Regards
Jeff

I had my Active Power car delivered in 6 months when Chris Ardern owner the business .I have the new owner’s contact info if you want it. I’ve spoken to him and it seems like they are improving on what Chris had. It’s a little bit different animal, but I chose it because of the C5 suspension and chassis.

Jeff, It seems based on your thread you have been waiting about one year. Not sure what your expectations were, but 18 months is about the norm. Unfortunately, Fran tends to be a bit optimistic when setting delivery dates. Generally, the more options that require RCR to do work, the longer the wait time. I ordered mine in May of 2023 and received it almost exactly one year later. I opted for +2 flares and the six point roll bar which added about a month. My recommendation is to remove any options that are not made by RCR and delete BO items from the order. For sure do not include body fitment. That adds months and unfortunately disappoints in most cases. You are probably close enough to delivery that any other option is going to take more time. The kit itself does not disappoint. Cheers, Randy

Randy,
My order had no add-ons, if I had decent communication I would be more tolerant of the time line, even after being lied to about the delivery time.
Unfortunately I do not have years to wait.
Jeff

I bought mine from RCR at the beginning of December 2024, received it in June of 2025. They told me 7 months wait when I placed the order. I also bought a couple options they offer, most of them I have but large items like the transaxle I am still waiting on. Over 2 years and no updates on any of the stuff I am missing and they never once contacted me with updates or anything. I am still waiting on the headers, transaxle, axles, and the shifter.

Honestly the waiting is ridiculous, they could fix their issues by just giving you a realistic timeframe and expectations.
What makes it worse is the parts list they gave me doesn't even include the transaxle so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't even part of the order even though I paid for it. I have received some things that were backordered after the delivery of the car so I am trying to be patient, but I thought I was patient waiting a year and a half to get the car and now over two years later I am still missing major components and can't really go a whole lot farther with the build until I get them.

Yes, unfortunately, Fran can be hard to contact. Have you tried reaching out to Bill. He was my go to. One year is considered quick, normally eighteen months. Supply chain issues can pop up and cause delays without much notice.

It is generally best not to order items from RCR that can be sourced elsewhere. RCR doesn’t have any pricing or timing advantages.
