Ford 1966 Acadian blue with Pace car white stripes. Google 1965-66 Ford paint samples
No connection with Gulf Oil. Ford colour as Rick said.
The story goes that Lee Holman was sent out to obtain some paint for the 'fender flashes' to make the car more visible & easier to see. Practice was done without the 'fender flashes'. Period photography varies, they often look orange rather than the distinctly red ones above.
