Got to be kidding? Someone needs to start re-casting these things and make some cash. My buddy Ed just got his magnesium 911 block shipped into my office, man is that thing light!!!

Ron,

Magnesium and heat don't mix.

I know of a few fires and Porsche magnesium engine blocks
warping very easily. From what I've read, most Porsche experts
agree that magnesium blocks are not a good thing.

My info might be outdated, but when reading up on old
911s, the consensus was to not buy anything older than '78
unless you want to do some major work. The use of magnesium
was cited as a major reason.

Of course, as with all of my posts, I stand to be corrected

Ja, I am aware! We used to take the Mg power and fire it up off hours in the lab. Same with Mg ribbon. But, it is light and works in some applications. If people pay this sort of money for these things we need to cast them!!!!

Don't believe everything your read on Mg blocks, Ed's last rebuild was in 1992 and 102k miles later and many track days it needs another rebuild but still runs strong. Just smokes a little. The 911s is a thrill to drive you won't get in a later (read heavier and more complex) 911. Ron
