Non-GT40 but Vintage Ford Speedo Question

My 72 Torino speedometer cable bit the big one some months ago. I have ordered a couple of replacements from Dearborn and Eckers, but the parts don't fit, typical for these outfits in my experience.

The Ford part number of the cable that came off the car and I know fits is:

SW-020F-17280-DA 2BC

The 2BC is sort of out on its own from the other numbers do I don't know if it is part of the ID or not.

Can any of you knowledgeable Ford fellows lend a hand determining where this comes from and maybe a source for a new one?

The speedo cluster in the car is the stock 1972 Gran Torino sport cluster and the transmission is a Toploader.

Ron,

That is a vendor/Ford engineering number. The original part number for Ford service parts is D2OZ 17260 D. That crosses to a NAPA United 48422 which may or may not match exactly the Stewart Warner supplied Ford part. I happen to have a complete set of Ford parts manuals left over from my parts and restoration business so a quick trip to the basement office gets the answers.

Green Sales in Cincinnati likely may have a NOS Ford part.

Thanks for the part number, that's helpful. I might be able to source something with that. My other alternative is to visit a local speedo shop (if one exists anymore, there used to be one years ago downtown) and have them make a new cable or repair mine.

Yeah,

Every decent city had a speedo shop. And they are all pretty much gone with the advent of electronic gauges. There are some people who still do cables to custom specs, look in Hemmings under the "services" area and you will find some.
